this? In my opinion, this has always
(at least once the number of committers grew) been ELinks' problem. The
gab between stable/unstable are very big, which makes making new
releases and upgrading very painful.

With Witek's latest changes, compression is not so experimental
any more, I think. Can you find any site where it still fails?
I haven't tested it personally, but I think it is the right thing to do.

I see you fixed it in your own tree. Yesterday, I reverted the change
removing the substitution of // into /, so that it is now limited only
to file URIs. The great thing is that local directory browsing now looks
more sane.

this I used MSYS / MingW, which comes
with gmake and shell utilities to run the configure script. I haven't
tried since.

the fix[1] from elinks-0.12 into the elinks-0.11 git tree.
Hopefully I will have time to release a follow up soon with this and
other fixes from the development tree.
