That's your problem there. You don't have libgnome-2.so.0 installed on
your system. Did you install gnome 2? Which flavor of Mandrake are you
using? 9.0 installs gnome 2 for you. Upgrading gnome is a monstrous
task to tackle on your own.

I have recently tried to install Mandrake 9.0 on an external FireWire
drive. I was pleasantly surprised to see the installation go smoothly
after booting from the installation CD and selecting expert. However
after finishing theinstallation, there is no way of booting the system.

My advice: Wipe it. I upgraded from 8.2 to 9.0 and then did a wipe and
re-install as it fell over in a few spots. Like, it found my sound on
reinstall but not in upgrade etc.
