Nina, I woke up this morning thinking how ironic it is that the internist does not want to try chemo without a definitive diagnosis but wanted to pts without one. If it is cancer it is lymphoma, given where it is and how it responds to steroids. If she thinks it could be something other than
Please, please try Acemannan or Immuno-Regulin shots. If it is not cancer and is immune-mediated, these both seem to help with felv-caused anemia. I would try acemannan first, because two people on this list personally had it save their cats from anemia. Immuno-regulin is supposed to help with

tad, I am so sorry about Leo. Orange cats seem to usually be amazing. My Simon surely was. And he did not mind going to the vet for treatments either, and in fact did not mind being in the hospital that much. He only started to mind when some idiot couldn't get a catheter in and stuck him
Well, I can bring it up at the next meeting. Unfotuntely I dont' think I will get a majority vote on that, particularly not from the lady who wrote off 30k in medical expenses last year.

One thing I always consider with testing -- the tests, the trip to a
vet and drawing of blood, is really stressful for the cat. So if you
have even a single positive ELISA test, go with the IFA next time. The
less the cat

Yesterday we were
at the vet withourMissy, and were told she's due for a rabies
shot. I know it's "the law" in these parts, but Iwanted to wait
until I had refreshed my mind on which way to
go.
To the best of my recollection, the 3-year shot is
considered (by everybody but the vets ;-))
it depends on your state laws--some won't accept the 3-year-shot as valid if anything happens (ie, cat bites someone, or a bat is found in your house). if your state accepts the 3-year, go with that
the other thing, ask your vet if they think she really needs it--in many states, a vet's
Actually, she was open to further diagnostic testing. At the time,
Spencer was so weak, and my pocket book is so stretched, that she just
figured that whatever it is, based on her experience, treatments would
only buy him a limited amount of time. That doesn't explain why she

Put a dollop of "untainted" baby food on top of the little pile with
the lysine mixed in. That gets them started and you have a better
chance of them eating all of it. Prayers that Crackers beats this
thing quickly.

Laura,
It breaks my heart to hear about Ziggy's retest being positive. He's
one lucky kitty to have found you. It may not always feel like it with
everything you are going through, (we all know how heart wrenching it
can be), but you are so very fortunate as well. Keep telling him that,
Hey, Diane - I may have missed something so you may have answered this in an earlier email. Since Missy is totally indoors and especially since she is older, with "older issues" is there any reason you couldn't just not vaccinate for rabies at all? "Rosenfeldt, Diane" [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote:

In many states a vet can get clearance for not
vaccinating an animal. I'm not sure how it is done but my vet did it for a
dog that had a compromised immune system. You might need to

I was able to license Mai Mai without the rabies

I would avoid giving Missy any more rabies vaccinations. Did you say
you are in CA? I don't think the laws governing rabies shots are state
wide. I think it's by county, but I'm not sure. Call your licensing

Tad, no worries, thank you for clearing it up - I thought I knew that I knew what you meant, but I wanted to make sure - sometimes (oftentimes) I am quite surprised.
Thank you again for your help,

Someone from my Internist's office just called back, (not a vet). The
message was to keep him on the dex and to make an appointment for
further testing to confirm lymphoma. Probably they will try to capture
some fluid, perhaps an ultrasound to confirm the existence of a mass.
I made the first
I forgot to mention that I did ask Michelle's question about why, when
they would recommend pts, they would be unwilling to treat something
without a definitive diagnosis. Her answer was, (and this was not the
vet, so...), they would not want to put me through the expense, or
Spencer through
No, we're in Wisconsin, and do not license any of our pets. Last I
heard licenses were $44/year each, and nobody does it unless there's
some sort of official reason. Even the evil Humane Society (not
county or state affiliated) who are absolute Nazis about checking vet
records on every animal
But the response to this might be, if there's a chance that it *isn't*
cancer, then maybe it's something that's less life-threatening, so why
just pts out of hand? I realize that it is most likely lymphoma :-(,
but when our Luc was so sick last year his ultrasound (he didn't get an
Xray) showed a
My soul-kitty is Missy and she has a heart murmur too.
I personally do not get her vaccinated against anything, on my vet's advice. Vaccinations are pretty dangerous for cats with heart problems.
I have never given a thought to her biting anyone. She's never bitten anyone and isn't likely to

if you're not a 501(c)3, a lot of folks won't donate to you
you won't get sales-tax breaks
you can't take advantage of programs that medical and food companies offer to shelters/rescues (idexx, bayer, schering-ploughand science diet, for example)
depending upon your state, you might get a call

My first instinct was to say, first own cat, then after a while, Kitty.
BUT. Then I thought of my own move, when Gail and I combined our respective

When they are introduced please consider using lots of Feliway in the rooms,
not on the cats, but on you and in the rooms, Super Catnip in the area and
Rescue Remedy on the cats and in their water. Neither cat needs to be
stressed any more than absolutely necessary.
