It will start and operate but when you save a document.abw you can
not choose a default application

out.
Fink's version of abiword is not an Apple application that you can
associate with a file type

I did the same. Still busted on INtel. On the G5, however, this
strategy worked. I cleaned out the devtools, then deleted the

upgrade was done.
Phillip, on the intel machine what do you get with:
I have gcc 4.0.1 installed using the XCode installer and 4.2.2
installed by Fink and I get that there is no such application. I've
done a search and can't find anything named gcc_select.

Phillip,
Your earlier attempts have left the directory /sw/fink in an
unintended state. Can you tell me the output of ls -l /sw/fink/10.5 ?

It had been installed with Xcode, but apparently not for Leopard,

Right, it shouldn't be there, but if it is, it will return something
like /usr/sbin/gcc_select which ought to be removed. Phillip indicated
that he was still having problems on his macIntel that were similar to
my original problems (which were in part fixed by manually removing
that command).
I receive an error on every attempt to install Fink. This only occurs
when the bootstrap program is attempting to download tarballs.
