Let me add to that.
The SGC500 is about as bullet proof as them come. I have one at my remote
base and it has given me years for trouble free service.
Essentially, you turn it on and forget it. It likes at 14VDC unregulated
power supply. It auto band shifts and it built like a tank.
It is
Is there a way to get band data from the 5000 to change bands on the KPA 500
automatically?

Zack, pg. 18 of the KPA500 manual shows the binary codes for the 4-bit
number that conveys band info. You just need to get the data out the back of
the 5000, convert it as necessary, and feed it to the amp.

Zack,
Digging farther, I now think I spoke too soon. I believed that the band-data
output from the 5000 came in a well-documented and easy-to-access form.
Maybe it does, but if so I can't find the info. Perhaps some public-spirited
guy with the right gear and a weekend to spare will figure out

Lyle: can you confirm that the KPA500 will accept band data and the

Than ks to all who replied. I am saving up to get a KPA500 in the near future.
Not getting a K3 though! Love my 5000.

As I’m always interested in amplifiers I decided to take a quick look at the
manual for the KPA500 amp.
I have not done an in depth review of the manual but this is what I have found
so far.

A very nice little amp but Elecraft is going to have to get over being
impressed by Elecraft and reduce the price before it is going to take the
market by storm. Except for the K3 fanbois, of course.

It strikes me as odd that it wants 30W-40W of drive power for 500W out. And

Why not use the SGC 500 if you only need 500 watts?
