[Flexradio] RemAud
Skype is not a good program for remoting. A much better free program is RemAud. Try it and you will never go back. Re: [Flexradio] FlexRadio Digest, Vol 113, Issue 16
Hard drive imaging is almost a necessity when running SDR radios. It is so easy to make an image and takes around 15 minutes to restore the hard drive to the point where the image was made. Many argue that in restoring an image at an earlier date, one will lose many of the installed programs since the image was made. I counter that argument in that it is a lot easier, in many cases, to reinstall programs, than it is to troubleshoot and correct corrupt data or registries, or other problems. Think about it. This all started a couple of weeks ago. We had a thunderstorm and lost power. Coax cables where disconnected, but computer and rig still on. I started getting strange issues where I would come to the shack and find the monitor with gibberish on it. That escalated to the computer completely locking up. This is a 2009 Neil built computer with no issues until now. today the computer locked up several times(of course during the vhf contest)so I decided to look inside. A bit of gunk on the heat sink so I blew it out cleaned it all up. Put it all back together and still lock ups. I defraged the drive, same issue except now windows would not start. had to run chkdsk and chkdsk /r and fixboot to repair that problem. Now computer runs fine. Runs logging program etc. When I turn on the 3000 I get a BSOD Driver_IRQL_NOT_EQUAL_OR_EQUAL. cHANGED fw CABLES SAME THING. Any help appreciated. Re: [Flexradio] Software issues
I will repeat this as I have about 5 times now. All of you who have your SDR's working great make a drive image of your computer. It takes on an average (depending on the size of the hard drive) 30 minutes to make a drive image and a little more time to restore the image. This problem has happened to me several times, and in a few minutes, I am back working perfectly. Windows XP, windows 7, windows 8, and 8.1 have built in image programs to make and restore the image. My radio is a F5k and it works perfect on my i5/W7/64 bit laptop using a SIIG Firewire 400 2-Port (6-pin) ExpressCard so my radio and fire wire cable test OK. My radio has worked perfect on my home PC for several years but some thing has changed or it has developed a fault and now PowerSDR will freeze randomly any where from a few seconds to a few hours. Some times the panadapter will freeze and the audio will stop and turning off and on PowerSDR will solve the issue. Some times turning off and on PowerSDR will grey out the panadapter and some times turning off PowerSDR will generate an error message Unhandled exception has occurred in your application and PowerSDR will crash requiring both the F5k and PowerSDR to be turned off and on again. I have tried all the things Flex recommend such as disabling power savings, using the legacy driver, factory defaults, reloading PowerSDR, no over clocking etc etc and nothing changes. I replaced the SIIG FireWire 400 2-Port PCIe card in my PC with a spare SIIG FireWire 400 3-Port PCI card (in a different slot) and I still have the exact same problem, so the problem is not the fire wire card either. The problem is a software problem in my PC. My PC is a high performance machine purchased specifically to run my F5k and I should not be having any issues. I have tried using different drivers for the FireWire cards and the problem still remains. System details are; PowerSDR v2.7.2 Max DPS ~ 190 us Safe mode 1 Sampling rate 96000 Hz Buffer size 2048 Intel Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40 GHz (BIOS up to date) RAM 16 GB SIIG FireWire 400 2-Port PCIe card and high quality cable (worked perfect for several years) SIIG FireWire 400 3-Port PCI card and high quality cable (Made no difference, problem still occurs) Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit (All updates complete) Any help appreciated, Craig VK6JJJ / VK0JJJ -- Message: 2 Date: Fri, 11 Jul 2014 23:56:53 -0500 From: Ken Akin kena...@gmail.com To: Craig Hayhow craig.hay...@gmail.com Cc: FlexRadio flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] PowerSDR freezing Message-ID: cag-eg6ekvebhyznw+fycgc-xndg7lf4kvayuobo3nkpnxyp...@mail.gmail.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Craig - Sounds like it pretty much has to be a software issue within the PC. [Flexradio] Reply for Desktop recording
PowerSDR has provides to methods of recording. One is to use the REC PLAY buttons on the radio graphics. It will record and playback the frequency you are recording. There is a Wave tab where one can record audio or IQ. IQ allows one to play back the spectrum monitored. It works very well. [Flexradio] Remoting power on the Flex 5000
It is quite easy to remote the power on and off on the Flex 3000. The front panel power switch toggles on and off. One merely depesses the switch to the on position and the radio can be turned on and off by remotely applying 12 VDC to the radio. There are several manufacturers that produce Internet AC power control units. Simply by plugging the Flex power supply into one of the AC ports, the flex 3000 can be remotely powered. Unfortunately, the Flex 5000 does not have a turn-on, turn-off front power switch. Its power switch does not toggle on and off; one depresses the switch, then releases to turn the radio on and off. However, I found by keeping the front power switch mechanically depressed, it can be remotely powered just like the 3000. Simply by putting a piece of industrial grade tape over the power switch while it is depressed allows one to remotely power the 5000 on and off by simply remotely applying 12 Volts as with the 3000. [Flexradio] Rf issues in monitor
Rf might be entering through the power and video cables. It could be that due to your RF issues that many monitors might suffer this interference problem. I would look into winding the cables around some torroids to see if this can prevent the RF from entering the monitor circuitry. Also, you might investigate putting a choke BALUN on the output of your transmitter, and a choke BALUN at the antenna feed point if your are using coax. This addition might keep RF off the feed line that could be radiating into your video cables. I saw a post a while back about someone who had this issue, mostly because of touch-sensitive controls. I'm looking on Amazon.co.uk but I don't know where to begin. I'm looking something like: 17-21 (any bigger and it won't fit on my desk) Must have VGA and HDMI inputs (DVI not a requirement but the other 2 are). Anyone got any specific brands and models they have have good/bad experiences with? I have an LG 17 inch but it's no longer meeting my needs (no DVI input). So far, so good. But now I want to use an additional antenna hooked to the Flex ANT2 input, so I've moved the BCB filter to the RX1 Out to RX1 In loop. Again, so far, so good. Except. . . I notice that over time, the noise level builds up to something like -100 db, with a broad peak to -90 db located about 16 kHz below wherever the radio is tuned. If I momentarily uncheck Use RX1 Out to RX1 In Loop in the Flex-5000 Antenna Selection, the noise level goes back to -85 db of course. But then, when I re-check Use RX1 Out to RX1 In Loop, the noise level goes back down to -114 db with the broad peak gone. But after a period of just about 45 to 60 seconds, the noise level gradually builds back up to -100 db and the broad peak comes back. (This broad peak pulsates in time to the modulation of the local AM station.) Does anyone have a clue as to what may be going on here? Is it perhaps something like a small bias voltage present on the RX1 Out to RX1 In loop that is charging up a coupling capacitor in the BCB filter that wasn't there when the BCB filter was in the ANT1 input? If I get another brand BCB filter for the RX1 Out to RX1 In Loop, am I likely to see the same effect? -- 73, Howard, K7JNX __**_ FlexRadio Systems Mailing List FlexRadio@flex-radio.biz http://mail.flex-radio.biz/**mailman/listinfo/flexradio_**flex-radio.bizhttp://mail.flex-radio.biz/mailman/listinfo/flexradio_flex-radio.biz Archives: http://www.mail-archive.com/**flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/http://www.mail-archive.com/flexradio%40flex-radio.biz/ Knowledge Base: http://kc.flexradio.com/ Homepage: http://www.flexradio.com/ -- *Best 73 de WA2SQQ Elmwood Park, NJ The only dumb questions are those we don't ask* -- Message: 2 Date: Fri, 30 Nov 2012 13:09:53 -0600 From: James McLester w4yxu@gmail.com To: russell bradley russell.bradleyg0...@ntlworld.com Cc: flexradio@flex-radio.biz Subject: Re: [Flexradio] flex radio no audio Message-ID: camc+gya0qkpr4ql85saxj34ehvk_j0js6p6fuxnum99xjr8...@mail.gmail.com Content-Type: text/plain; charset=ISO-8859-1 You are a better man than I! You might try going to setup-audio-factory defaults. I have had strange things happen on my 5000 and resetting to factory defaults cleared up the mess.
