Based on an earlier discussion (and as shown earlier in this thread) I
had set auth-type=PAP in users.
Which is wrong, if you want to do authentication OTHER than PAP.
After digging through about 300 messages in the archive, I
I cannot seem to get both PAP and CHAP to work at the same time - I can get
either to work but not both.
I have what I believe is a reasonably common setup:
ISP (I need to support the common PPP auth methods for Internet access)
NAS: Ascend 4048
MySQL user database (with a clear test password

There shouldn't be any problem if the server is configured
correctly.
I have the following in the 'users' file:
DEFAULT Auth-Type := PAP

One thing that is not included in the schema for LDAP is 'chappassword'.
It assumes you already have it. If you do not have this in your schema
then you will need to add it and then add it to the customer record you
are testing against.
Then CHAP will start working.

One thing I have noticed on the LDAP side of things is in order to use
pap and chap you will need to have both a userpassword and a
chappassword. Since userpassword is stored encrypted and chappassword
is stored in clear text.
Just something to consider when doing this with LDAP.
