I know this has been covered before, but it looks this time as if I may
actually need to do something on this front.
My daughter has a Lombard, currently running 9.2.something. She want an
iPod for Christmas! Obviously we could get her an original model which
runs on Mac OS 9.2.2, or we could
Can responders confirm that an iPod works OK on an older, non-Firewire
Powerbook using a Firewire card? And can they briefly list the config
they're using, ie, OS version, iPod generation, and card type?

Apple sells an adapter for the IPOD that allows you to use a usb port
instead of firewire. The adapter plugs in to the ipod base then splits into
two cables... one is a USB cable that plugs into your computer... the other
is a firewire cable that plugs into the AC adapter (which plugs into the
Hi, I have a PB g3 400 Pismo and I want to upgrade this mac because is a
machine that has performed really good in since i bought it, tis an excellent
machine and good looking too.
I want to know if someone can help me about the processor upgrades that are
available, are they worth the money
My daughter has inadvertently switched the DVD region code on her iBook over
the limit and is now stuck in the wrong region. Is there a fix for that?
You could try to patch the drive with a firmware that will remove that
restriction. There is always a risk, but I've done it twice on my Pismo

Another option might be to purchase the split USB/charging cable, which I am using

The processor upgrades look good from what I've read. From what I've
read the Powerlogix blue chip G3 900 is just as fast, if not faster,
than the Newertech G4 500. Additionally, you don't have to send you
'book away, just the daughtercard.

Can't understand why these are not being bid on. Price seems
excellent. This would be compatible with a PB G3, correct?

Not sure about this, but isn't ATA/100 the actual speed of the interface,
i.e. 100MB/sec, while the 3, 4, 5 or 6 being the actual

Hi,
I had done this on two PowerBooks (on with DVD only drive and one with
CD-RW/DVD). Here is how I made it happen.
1. You need computer that boots to OS 9
2. Boot to OS 9
3. Download DVDInfo app and run it to determine what is your DVD make,
model. You can download the DVDInfo from
I am very interested in this thread, because I have been trying for awhile
to get my 2nd gen iPod to connect to my Lombard (9.2.2). No success with
two different Firewire cards, one a generic, the other a VST. I just

A very Long time ago I bought a SODIMM 32*64 PC100 256 MB (TPW 256).
I can't see it right now because I put it in the bottom slot of a 333

It's the wrong type RAM. The Lombard requires PC66, although SOME lucky
bastards find that their machines do accept PC100.. It's the luck of the draw I
guess--mine won't take PC100, even though an old Wallstreet I had (which
supposedly required PC66) was as happy as a clam with PC100!!!
