I can't seem to find an easy answer to this question in the forums...
I'm hoping there's a nice How-To...

Hey All,
I see that there is a newer ebuild for the Gentoo Sources ebuild. (I
last compiled from 2.4.20-r7 and it's offering r8).
Should I emerge it? Should I skip it? Should I emerge and recompile the
kernel? Will it overwrite my old configuration? Etc...
Sorry if this has been asked but all I

disabled session saving and nothing seems to work.
Any advice?

Is there any easy way to get a changelog for the various packages

For example: emerge -up --with-change-log world
It would be nice...

I suppose u need the extra storage, but why don't you convert the
windoze box to gentoo and use it as print and fileserver?
I use an old PII 300Mhz as NFS, samba (both PDC and plain fileserver)
and USB print-server (for my Epson Stylus C82), it works like a charm!

Hey All,
I've got sendmail explicitly emerged but everytime I do that (the first

In reading the description of ssmtp I shouldn't need it if I have
sendmail itself. So why does it keep coming back when I try to update

Look in /var/cache/edb/virtuals. There is probably a line that says:
virtual/mta net-mail/ssmtp net-mail/sendmail
Change this to:

I'm trying to install a very minimal Gentoo on a soon to be 486 router.

The good ones have a built in function that you can choose that restarts
all ports. The older, cheaper crappy ones (especially the ones with a dial
on the front) you need to turn the dial really slowly.. you can't just flick
throught the choices on the cheap models.. otherwise they don't
The Gentoo box however, even though it was the one that was originally
running fine with the Glidepad using the GlidepointPS/2 mouse protocol,
will flick the mouse cursor (and button taps) randomly all over the
screen when I use the glidepad through the KVM.
Use the 'kbrequest' action of
the
XFree 4.3.0-r2 ebuild. Has this been fixed? As an option perhaps? Or a
new mouse KVM protocol... etc.
For now I'm just using two mice... but that defeats the purpose. Any
ideas?
Thanks!

Hey all,
I've got three machines at home all running the same versions of

I just upgraded MySQL to version 4 and it appears to have been seemless

Some of my utilities (namely, courier-imap's authvchkpw and mod_php)

able to get around that by linking that to
How can I get those tools to update to libmysqlclient.so.12 directly? Is it
as simple as re-emerging those two components? Should I worry that other
things are also using those and if so how do I tell?
I think the utility revdep-rebuild does the trick, it's part of the
gentoolkit
package if I
If you inject a stub for qmail there is no reason why ssmtp should be
blocked too. Stubs are only good for the package which you specified
and no others.
However, my understanding is that ssmtp would not be installed if qmail
was actually there, as it would satisfy the virtual/mta dependency.
I know I saw this before but I don't remember if there was a solution...
What I'm wondering is if there is a way to mask off entire branches of

Is there a way to suppress printing to the screen the actual compile and
