There was a blog post a few years ago by the util-linux maintainer in
which he was pushing for users to symlink "/etc/mtab" to
"/proc/self/mounts" and he was explaining that having "bind" as a
property in mtab doesn't make sense because you could unmount the
"bound-to" mount and the "bound" mount would still show "bind" as a
property.
Is "/" shown when you run "df -a"? If it's shown, then there's a bug
in coreutils (as long as they accept a bug on a system where mtab
isn't a symlink) because, AFAIR, "df" should show the mount with the
shortest mount path if a filesystem's mounted more than once.
into the blue, it could be related to readline. As I
see gentoo's bash uses the standalone readline from coreutils, while
the original bash source maintains an own trimmed version of readline..

In that case, re-emerging Bash with USE=-readline should get rid of the
problem
Dear all,
Unfortunately there have been no responses on my question below - since
most likely none of us have faced/solve this bloody problem before. A

I updated my PC today, and there was a lot of KDE-related packages being
updated.
As part of my usual update procedure I depclean'ed and ran
revdep-rebuild.sh - and it wants to rebuild every single package on my
system? Surely that has to be some kind of mistake?
Anyone have any insight?
Dan
