I feel the same way about CNN that you feel about Fox. I wouldn't even consider anything CNN says unless I saw it myself. Fox at least shows both points of view instead of just one side like CNN and their bed buddies. You may also want to consider the ratings of Fox compared to CNN. Fox passed CNN ages ago. Hardly anyone watches CNN over here anymore. Just today it was reported that Oreilly was third in ALL the ratings. Not just news but all the channels. The first two was TNT and the USA network. When I'm not running screen, commands like emerge change the title of the console I'm currently in (like Konsole or PuTTY (win)). I figured that it might be easier to get screen to set the title of one of the screens automatically from the title that the bash session that it is hosting has. After digging a bit, I found shelltitle, but that only seems to read the name of the currently executing command, and also overwrites the name that I might have assigned to that screen. My goal is to have titles that are something like: [screen title]: [xterm title] where I can set [screen title] using C-a A and [xterm title] is what I would normally see as the title of an XTerm/Konsole/PuTTY. Hello list, I have a small collection of songs which I'd like to put on a Web site in shortened form. I've converted them to mp3 on my disk, but they're too big to upload to the Web host (and anyway if everyone could download the lot they wouldn't have to buy the CD). Is there a way to create a version of each song that fades out after, say, half a minute? Or perhaps resample them at a lower bit-rate? My problem was that I used hardstatus instead of caption. This allows
the window title to be set by the terminal.
Is there a way to have a child screen session set the title of the
terminal, eg. I run emerge inside a screen inside a screen (like sshing
from one computer to another)?
Also, is there a way to get the screen title to match the terminal title?

I pretty much set the new kernel up like the old one, except for a few things. However, now my touchpad acts really strange from time to time, nothing really specific, it's ONLY the touchpad, so i can connect an USB mouse, but this is hardly an ideal solution. The strangeness is that the mouse jumps all over the screen when I try to move it, and clicks all over the place, making for really really anoying stuff. Sure enough the ebuild contains RDEPEND=media-libs/fontconfig cups? ( net-print/cups ) x86? ( =x11-libs/gtk+-2.0 ldap? ( net-nds/openldap ) !minimal? ( || ( net-libs/xulrunner net-libs/xulrunner-bin www-client/mozilla-firefox www-client/seamonkey www-client/seamonkey-bin ) ) ) amd64? ( =app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs-2.4.2 =app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-gtklibs-2.0 !minimal? ( || ( net-libs/xulrunner-bin www-client/seamonkey-bin ) ) ) So for amd64 we need (assuming not a minimal install) some emulation. OK. If you watch the log messages when you plug in a device, you can tell which controller it's connected to and whether it's a high-speed device or not. Dale So it doesn't matter which slots the webcams are plugged into? - Grant I'm not 100% sure of this but I think it will try to connect sort of like a IDE drive or even a old dial-up modem does. It just tries to use the fastest speed it can get a stable connect at. It appears to try the new faster version first but if that doesn't work it switches to the slower speed and tries that. Because of my hardware, I have to use both on mine since some can only use the slow speed and some can use the high speed. As far as the actual connector itself, I'm pretty sure it doesn't matter at all. It's one chip that controls it all anyway. Just like the PCI bus, it has one chip and that's it. I know I have switched my printer and camera around several times and it works the same no matter how I connect it. Now if you have the new version USB with everything hardware wise, you may be able to disable the old version so that it has no option but to use the new fast one. That way you can get the fast speed or a error message that it isn't working. Keep in mind tho, if you have a junky cable, it will limit the speed a LOT. My printer would not use the new fast version with a older cable. It does with the new cable tho. My camera just plain don't work with the new version no matter what. You may want to get a good quality cable to test with too. Someone correct me if I am off base here. Dale :-) :-)

[gentoo-user] looking for a ftp client script
Hi guys, I need to exchange some files between a AIX developer server and my gentoo desktop, actually it is not a gentoo request :-). There is no ftp client tool or file server setup on that AIX server, and I don't have enough power to install any binary tool. So, I think it is possible to use script on AIX, then it will get/put files from/to my gentoo's ftp server. Can anyone recommend such a script? Perl based script is prefered, Thanks, Weifeng
