[gentoo-user] problems adding local overlay and ebuild

2010-09-01 Thread Arnau Bria
Hi all,

I'd like to install mcollective and developer provides its ebuild.
so I've followed http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Overlay for adding a
local overlay.

*I had a problem when adding
source /usr/local/portage/layman/make.conf to my make.conf. That file
does not exists and layman has no make.conf file. Anyway, removing that line
and following the other steps makes my ebuilds available to emerge.

so this is my structure:
# ls -R /usr/local/portage/*
/usr/local/portage/dev-ruby:
stomp

/usr/local/portage/dev-ruby/stomp:
ChangeLog Manifest stomp-1.1.6.ebuild stomp-1.1.ebuild

/usr/local/portage/multi-tool:
mcollective

/usr/local/portage/multi-tool/mcollective:
ChangeLog files Manifest mcollective-0.4.7.ebuild mcollective-0.4.8.ebuild

/usr/local/portage/multi-tool/mcollective/files:
client.cfg.dist.patch mcollectived.conf mcollectived.init
server.cfg.dist.patch

/usr/local/portage/profiles:
repo_name

So now I try to install new package:

# emerge multi-tool/mcollective

 * IMPORTANT: 1 news items need reading for repository 'gentoo'.
 * Use eselect news to read news items.

Calculating dependencies /

!!! Invalid or corrupt dependency specification:

Conditional without parenthesis: 'server?'

('ebuild', '/', 'multi-tool/mcollective-0.4.8', 'merge')

server? || ( =dev-ruby/stomp-1.1 =dev-ruby/stomp-1.1.6 ) =dev-lang/ruby-1.8

This package can not be installed. Please notify the 'multi-
tool/mcollective-0.4.8' package maintainer about this problem.
... done!

and it complains about server line.

I've tried to add a parenthesis to that line, and after new digest, it
still complains about that line.

so, anyone with more experience could help me? is there a real problem
with the ebuild? or the problem is mine? (most probable :-) ).

*Instead of pasting ebuild code, I paste download link:

http://code.google.com/p/mcollective/downloads/list

Thanks in advance,

Yep, I only wanted to say that I did not follow all the steps in the

You hit the jpeg issue and that was a while back. We've had the

You can expect to use a lot of revdep-rebuild to get all this going

revdep-rebuild against libjpeg.so.7 solved the issue.

So, I suppose it did rebuild some dep package (don't ask me which :-) )

[gentoo-user] correct way for unmasking several packages

2010-01-22 Thread Arnau Bria
Hi all,

I'm wondering which is the correct way for unmasking several
depending packages when you want to unmask only want.

Let me explain, I want to unmask xorg-server, and every time I try to
update, it complains about one package, I unmask it, then it complains
about other, and so on...

so, is there a good/correct way for doing so?

TIA

Hi all,

Now I'm trying to configure my global shortcuts on XFCE. I've read
somewhere (forums+google) that I should have some exaile plugin called

I'm using 0.2.99.

Could someone that is already using exaile give me some help on this

LIBGL_ALWAYS_INDIRECT=1 INTEL_BATCH=1 compiz --replace --indirect-rendering

What happens when you replace the vesa driver with nvidia? emerge

this is the slower open source driver, which should be okay for 2D
 acceleration at least.

when I use nvidia driver system goes really, really slow. about a
minute to change between worksapces, or open an aplication.

nv completly freezes my sytem.

nvidia-drivers are rebuild after kernel upgrade.

[gentoo-user] hal, how to chose between nvidia and nv

2009-11-04 Thread Arnau Bria
Hi all,

I have no xorg.conf, so hal does all the conf stuff for me.
My problem (I think) is that I have both modules in my sytem:

$ grep nv /etc/make.conf

and seems that Xorg tries some drivers and finally loads nv driver:

from less /var/log/Xorg.0.log, some relevant info:

 Alt-SysRq-R, followed by Ctrl-Alt-F1?
nop, did not remeber key combination, but I don't care if I have to
reboot, not the issue in this topic.

I have hal support in it, but also still keyboard and mouse sections
 in xorg.conf. I also have
 Option AutoAddDevices false
 Option AllowEmptyInput false
in the ServerLayout section to make them still work. so I can easier
switch between using and not using HAL for devices than by
 re-compiling with changes USE flags.
Ok, but if I have to add input section and nvidia section, what profit
do I take from hal? I prefer having my weel know xorg file :-)

I've looked for it on google and forums but I did not find a valid
solution to my problem.

I'm on :

[I] x11-base/xorg-server
Installed versions: 1.5.3-r6(12:49:14 PM 09/29/2009)(hal
input_devices_evdev nptl sdl video_cards_nvidia video_cards_vesa xorg

Installed versions: 180.60!s(01:28:20 PM 09/23/2009)(acpi gtk

I'm really lost cause many refernces talk about old buggy xorg
versions, and most curious is that it started one day suddenly, without
restarting X session or upgrading kenrel/driver, whatever... I only
loxked my screeen and next day X started going really slow until now
that I have to use vesa driver.

Yep, bith things, and upgraded kernell too.

Also xorg-server was just updated to 1.6 this week, so you are out of
date now. That doesn't explain the slowness, but you might want to
try the upgrade to see if it helps. Be sure to follow the upgrade
 instructions very carefully, however.
I like 1.6 guide :-) really short! (but now they introduce libxcb

[gentoo-user] unable to reboot

Hi all,

it hangs just after unloading ALSA modules, and nothing else happens.

strange.

[gentoo-user] some issues after upgrading to xorg-server 1.5.3

2009-05-11 Thread Arnau Bria
Hi all,

I've updated my system to xorg-server 1.5.3 following the official doc:
http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/desktop/x/x11/xorg-server-1.5-upgrade-guide.xml

I have VIDEO_CARDS=vesa intel as intel driver not worked propertly in
the past with my video card:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile GM965/GL960
Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03)

I configured it with hal, so:
# grep INPUT /etc/make.conf
INPUT_DEVICES=evdev

and my layout es for spanish.

# cat /etc/hal/fdi/policy/10-xinput-configuration.fdi
?xml version=1.0 encoding=UTF-8?
!--
Section InputDevice
   Driver evdev
   Option XkbLayout es
EndSection
--
deviceinfo version=0.2
   match key=info.capabilities contains=input.keyboard
  merge key=input.x11_options.XkbLayout type=stringes/merge
   /match
/deviceinfo

and finally, I removed my xorg.conf file...
This is a tail of my Xorg log file:

(II) intel(0): Printing DDC gathered Modelines:
(II) intel(0): Modeline 1280x800x0.0 71.11 1280 1328 1360 1440 800 803

809 823 -hsync -vsync (49.4 kHz)
(II) intel(0): EDID vendor AUO, prod id 32884
exaCopyDirty: Pending damage region empty!

So, my problems:

1.-) I use slim, and when xdm starts, I have to restart X server with
Ctrl+Atl+BackSpace if i don't that I don't see slim.

2.-) From slim to XFCE it takes a couple of minutes.

3.-) My touchpad behaves really strange, don't really know howto
explain this, but if I put the finger in the middle of the pad, cursos
goes to middle, if I put the finger in top righ, cursor goes to top
right, but I can't move the cursor with little movements as I've ever
done... seems that pad and screen are 1:1 scale ... yes, this
explanation sucks :-) but I don't know how to explain it in Spanish
neither!!!

TIA,
Arnau

It appears that you may have changed your CHOST at some point in the
past - if so, you may want to try rebuilding sys-libs/libperl and
dev-lang/perl, which may fix this error (you might want to try that
even if you *haven't* changed your CHOST, just in case).
Did it, and got same error...

my system is 2 days old and comes from frsh install, no CHOST changes,

You need to set the interface name in the preferences. It's probably
set to wlan0 now, when you are using wlan1.
You're right! It was wlan0 on livecd (it's a fresh install) and I did
not notice the change in interface's name.

after changing some use and removing some packages

I tried to rebuild pygtk, but did not help.
I only found some old solution in forums, talking about python 2.4.
I'm on python 2.5.2.

An other curious thing is this:

[gentoo-user] Installing grub in RAID 1 system

2008-05-22 Thread Arnau Bria
Hi,

following http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Gentoo_Install_on_Software_RAID
I'm doing next:

If you are using a RAID 1 mirror disk system, you will
want to install grub on all the disks in the system, so that when one disk
fails, you are still able to boot. The find command above will list the disks,
e.g.

grub find /boot/grub/stage1
 (hd0,0)
 (hd1,0)
grub

Now, if your disks are /dev/sda and /dev/sdb, do the following to install GRUB
on /dev/sda MBR:

device (hd0) /dev/sda
root (hd0,0)
setup (hd0)

This will install grub into the /dev/sdb MBR:

device (hd0) /dev/sdb
root (hd0,0)
setup (hd0)

Well, when installing grub in sdb (hdb in my system) I get next:

grub device (hd0) /dev/hdb

Error 15: File not found

grub find /boot/grub/stage1
 (hd0,0)
 (hd1,0)

As I have never understood all grub concepts, I'm not sure if the
command is correct or not (I think not, but again, not grub master
neither middle-user!), so could someone clary it for me? Why is grub
giving my that error?

Cheers!

This is a 2.6.22 (at work). gonna download newest kernel and try again.
