[gentoo-user] remove fancy framebuffer on boot
Hello, I have a new laptop and when it boots after the initial start up the output goes from a larger text to something very small with the penguins displayed. My desktop doesn't do this and I am pretty sure that I shut if off there and I don't remember what I did and my searches haven't turned up anything useful at this point. If I don't want framebuffer with the images and small text, what do I need to do to get rid of it? Thanks, Tami
[gentoo-user] kmail not working after KDE 4.6 upgrade
After compiling KDE 4.6, kmail isn't accessing my email accounts. I get errors like this: Error while checking account gmail for new mail: The process for the imaps://imap.gmail.com protocol died unexpectedly. For all of my IMAP and POP accounts. My .xsessions files contains: kioslave: ### CRASH ## protocol = pop3s pid = 25338 signal = 11 kioslave: ### CRASH ## protocol = imaps pid = 25342 signal = 11 I recompiled all of the packages in kdepim-meta and anything I could find that seemed to reference kio, but that made no difference. I can shut off SSL on one of the POP accounts and it fetched email as expected. That really isn't an long term option, though, and several of the accounts only have SSL access. I hope that this is just an issue with something that needs to be recompiled, but I am not sure that to recompile at this point. revdep-rebuild doesn't turn up anything. Any ideas? -- Tami King

Hello, I have a machine where I can't get kate to compile. Errors from the build: /var/tmp/portage/kde- base/kate-4.3.1/work/kate-4.3.1/kate/plugins/externaltools/kateexternaltools.cpp: In member function 'bool KateExternalTool::checkExec()': /var/tmp/portage/kde- base/kate-4.3.1/work/kate-4.3.1/kate/plugins/externaltools/kateexternaltools.cpp:97: error: 'KDE' has not been declared /var/tmp/portage/kde- base/kate-4.3.1/work/kate-4.3.1/kate/plugins/externaltools/kateexternaltools.cpp:114: error: 'KDE' has not been declared Kate builds fine on other machines so I am sure that it is just something messed up on this particular machine.
