[gentoo-user] torrent issue

2007-08-20 Thread ionut cristian cucu
i have a strange issue with torrent clients: they freeze my computer.
Sometimes i just start the legal download and my computer stops
responding, other times at some point while downloading. Everything
else works just fine. I did a memtest nothing came out wrong. I'm
using an ~amd64 box  with 2.6.21-gentoo-r3. Whether I use a C or a
python client it crashes my system bad(only a hard reset works), even
if X is not started a console client will freeze my computer. I used
torrents before and worked fine but now, well now they don't. Do you
have any ideea?

audacious is a good one!how come? How come nobody mentioned mpd? now that's lite and it has all one could want(based on it's clients): command line interface, gtk, qt u name it as for functionality as well pick a client based on what u want, now mpd with sonata as client consumes less resources(not by far) than xmms did; also sonata worked out of the box with my multimedia keys

Well, then I am not sure what exactly you want to do.
This i wanted to to:
# /etc/conf.d/local.start

# This is a good place to load any misc programs
# on startup (use /dev/null to hide output)
/bin/su - cuci -c /bin/bash

But initially I did: su -c user /bin/bash did not worked
Very simple way to get rid of xdm/kdm/ stuff

In its default home directory. 1.1) If you mean to auto log into console mode, then there is a way with mingetty. You have to add a line into your /etc/inittab file: 1:12345:respawn:/sbin/mingetty --noclear --autologin USERNAME tty1
Of course you have to do emerge mingetty before that.mingetty solution seams redundant as i can get this done with avaiable packages installed already on my system. 1.2.) If you meant to auto login into your Desktop (KDE, Gnome,...etc.) the easiest
way is to log into Gnome or KDE as root and to change the login manager preferences. This also does not seem to be the best solution to have a login manager since I have only a user 2) As root execute the command: gpasswd -a USERNAME plugdev.
My user is listed in plugdev already, that is why I'm puzzeled by that error 3) I have no idea. -- Best regards, Daniel --
