Sadly from experience get_iplayer is not a viable alternative to Radio
Downloader - largely due to the former's or its associated apps' instability.

The WebPVR continues to fail - much as listed in John's log below. However
there is now an entry in the history file which means that I can't try a forced
download with the WebPVR.
So I tried a command line download using:
C:\Program Files\get_iplayerget_iplayer
Latest attempt - crashed at 60MB (out of 109MB)
C:\Program Files\get_iplayerget_iplayer --type=radio -i --pid=b0368my6
--modes=flashaudio --force -w --file-prefix=Folk

immediately visible on the initial screen. - There are 5 tabs starting
with 'Advanced search' in dark red with four more in dark grey to the
right of it just below the top menu bar on the PVR screen. Click the
