[Gimp-user] Wacom Intuos Pro - configuration?
Hi I finally got an Intuos Pro :-) It works on my Gentoo, but in gimp there are no buttons. Not for the pen and also not for the Intuos. I am not sure how to configure this. I have used gimp not so much until now. Now I have to postprocess a bunch of pictures of a shooting. Do you have any hints how to use the buttons? Which menu entries are essential for an smooth working with gimp on photos? The word "humongous" comes to mind. Some things I would suggest is cropping layers that do not fill the entire image, so they do not eat up any more memory than necessary; avoid converting text layers to image layers where and as possible; and maybe most important, delete your undo history early and often - it uses a lot of memory. Another thing to consider is the distance from which the poster will be viewed. The further away from the viewer the less DPI resolution is needed. 300 DPI is standard for materials that will be hand held, but 200 might be acceptable for a poster that will hang on a wall. Some experiments might be in order. :o) ___ gimp-user-list mailing list List address:gimp-user-list@gnome.org List membership: https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/gimp-user-list List archives: https://mail.gnome.org/archives/gimp-user-list

I got it at Gimp.org. I knew it was there, I just couldn't find it. Now with your very clear directions, I have found it. I wonder why they hide it? Anyway, I've copied it into the main Gimp menu, and set it on the taskbar. Thanks for your swift and precise instruction. I've had Gimp before but never learned how to get the most from it. I intend to do just that now. Again, thanks... If you do not use the customize option when installing Gimp then you do not get a desktop shortcut, but you should get a menu entry. Re: [Gimp-user] Gimp does not recognize - will not open NEF Raw files from a Nikon D5500 Camera
I answered on the previous thread, but I'll address your specific concerns here. 2a: batch processing - the other mentioned raw processors support this (RawTherapee for instance) no problem. 2b: I don't think LR does layering/masking - maybe local edits at best for some small things. GIMP does support layering, of course. 2b1: long exposure during the daytime w/o using ND filters can be done by mean averaging the frames ( https://patdavid.net/2013/09/faking-nd-filter-for-long-exposure.html). 2b2: If you want to create an actual HDR image, you'll need something like LuminanceHDR or HDRMerge to create them (and then something to tonemap them into a range you can see - likely LuminanceHDR for that). You can spend $142 for LR if you want, up to you. I'd personally recommend you take a little bit of time playing with the other projects first. Chances are quite good they'll do exactly what you want. If you want to ask questions, we have a community of Free Software photographers over at https://pixls.us to address specific concerns and questions, and to generally help out. pat On Mon, Jun 12, 2017 at 3:02 PM Chuck Devlin via gimp-user-list < gimp-user-list@gnome.org> wrote: > I sent an email the other day covering this topic, but did not properly > explain my situation.1.
