For REALLY cheap stuff to practice with, I've seen (and have a stash
of) Christmas decorations that look like a slightly larger and
coarser version of rough perl. It's sold in packets as a look-alike
for tinsel. It is metal (I have some in pure copper and some in
another metal colored blue).
