Which means that the server will be forced to reboot when changing map,
but why? Why is the masterserver forcing the gameserver to do this, when
to server is up2date? and why doesnt it force it everytime if the
problem is something else?

That matches the TCP/IP communication every 5mins between the
gameservers and some random external server. Disabling VAC (-insecure)
will cancel this TCP/IP session and the spikelags will be gone. At
least it did the last time VAC servers fucked up.

On Mon,
Its more likely the server that is overloaded or something... or somehow
delaying the reply that 1-2s, which means the server rewind to the time
of the request... or at least that is what I think is happening we a bit
of work tracking it down... Though im not quite there yet. ;-)

I cant tell, yet, it these are VAC or not, but when VAC is enabled they
are TCP traffic to them every 5mins -

- 208.111.171.83
and I have another list of steam IPs, which im also not sure is VAC,
auth, master, auth, content or whatever -

- 69.28.140.245

I dont use iptables in this setup. I know plenty about TCP/IP which isnt
the issue either.
I wanna know the port, so I can make sure I NAT the same external IP to
just the masterservers, but not VAC servers. Since I cant just get/find
a list of the different IPs and target them like that, the

Hi all
Does anyone of you guys (and girls :-)) know how to set/control the
(source) port which is used to communication with the master server?
It seems to always pick 26901 and automatically add 1 to the port for
each server started (without -nomaster).
I have checked
might be throtteling your requests.
And instead of randomly assigning IPs you could maybe
use 1 IP per 100 servers ;)

Hi Valve
Almost 1½ years ago someone report a broken master server, as you can
see here -
http://www.mail-archive.com/hlds_linux@list.valvesoftware.com/msg45641.html
The server is still not responding and is still being address by the
gameservers, which still causes the server to hang
, i've got about 5 srcds servers, and got this problem
few times a month

Hi All
We are running about 500 srcds and hlds servers behind a NATed firewall
which seems to be a problem for VAC, Content, Master or whatever servers
at valve. :-(
Most of the times the server startup just fine, but more and more often,
probably due to more and more gameservers, why either
Issue seems to be fixed after a clientside steam update. Guess we will
never know what actual happened and who fucked up.

We are getting these lags as well... Both mostly srcds servers, but a
few hlds customers have complained about lags... the lag varies from
rarely to quite often.
I have been going through gameservers, storageservers, network/switches,
firewalls and cant find anything wrong... nothing
