Re: [ilugd] Linux installation server

2010-09-14 Thread Aman Thakur
  Hi Narender,

I have been doing network installation of RHEL5.2/RHEL5.4 for the last
4-5
months on a regular basis. So if you are installing Redhat Distibution
then
I would suggest you to go for KICKSTART, if you have the similar
configuration computer systems. Even you can customize your network
installation. So best way is to make DHCP PXE BOOT Server and do network
   install.

But if you are doing it on others Distros then go with Cobbler. That too
is
   good and easy.

   Good luck Narender ;)

[ilugd] Job in Linux Administration

2010-09-27 Thread Aman Thakur
Hello everyone,

I am sending this mail for a query and to have views from different people
working in Open Source. I am currently pursuing RHCE and i have my RHCE just
after 2 days on 30th sept. I was searching for the job in open source on
jobs websites but i have found many but they all want experienced people.
But i am a fresher. I am working on LINUX platform for the last 2 and half
years. So will i get a job in Open source or not, is there a chance?

If anyone can can suggest, i would be great.

Thanks to all guys to replied so fast and sharing their priceless views on
the topic. I really appreciate that you people tried to help me and tried to
show the way to move on.

And yes i agree that there are many people who do crash courses and get RHCE
certificates but i am not one of those. Obviously i am not excellent but i
know enough and have learnt all the things through experience on the Linux
Box only. And i think will clear the exam on 30th on the basis of this
knowledge only.

actually i am working on a project which would include a video conferencing
facility and that will be one to one conversation. The project is being
developed in J2ee. I have searched a lot on net but couldn't get anything

Re: [ilugd] Server is hacked, pl. advice

2010-12-10 Thread Aman Thakur
Hi abhishek,

I agree with the guys who are supporting a reinstall here. Even my linux
(RHEL 5.5) Virtual machine was compromised once because i didn't updated it
regularly. Someone gained root access to my machine. I tried so many things
at that time. But finally there was only one solution and that is reinstall.

So just backup you data, only data and reinstall your system. And update
your system with the latest security updates. Even if you succeed fixing
this system, even then there are chances for the system to be compromised
once again. Because it may be possible that attacker may have generated a
vulnerability into the system. So, reinstall is the best way to ensure the
security and is a permanent fix. Thats the only way to secure your system.

And i hope you must be having a good idea about the rootkits now.:)

showing error in fstab. May be system is not able to find the find the

possible then you should create your partition#1 again in correct manner
using fdisk utility or gparted. And edit fstab accordingly. And for more

Hi Rakesh,

I agree with the Mahesh in his both the above messages. I think there should
be a different /home partition. And for fixing your broken ubuntu system,
you should try to go in rescue mode and reinstall the grub. If unsuccessfull
then try to goto into the grub command line fix it as mahesh said above
But i am not sure whether it works out for you or not. Since problem came
during update, so it might a problem of broken packages. So try fixing grub
first then let us know the output..so that we can have more idea of the
problem.

Re: [ilugd] ubuntu 10.10

2011-01-14 Thread Aman Thakur
Hi vivek,

Vivek do you have any other OS installed in your hard drive? I mean is it a
dual boot machine or just a ubuntu? If it is a dual boot, then, Is your
machine working fine with the other Operating system? Even i faced this
problem with my P4 machine. It was a dual boot machine having Ubuntu 9.10
and WinXP, and it was hanging after 10-15 min of boot. But that was an
hardware issue. So, you should check your hardware also. One way to do that
and ensure that your hardware is working fine is, try running Ubuntu Live
session with the ubuntu CD/DVD. If it hangs the live session then its
definitely a hardware problem else your hardware is working fine, it just a
problem with the software.

So, then you can try upgrading your ubuntu system if its possible else
re-installing is the best way to fix all issue...:)

Hi vivek,

If you have the disk with you goto the linux rescue environment and
try mount
-n -o remount,rw / . This will remount your system in read write mode. And
you can fix the broken system using the command sudo dpkg --configure -a
and sudo update-grub. This is problem is with mostly with Ubuntu users who
try to upgrade their systems but machine fails to boot after upgradations.

So try these commands and let us know if that works.good luck...:)

I always use cut sheets. On some of my dot matrix printers, which have
a pause button, if I send a multi page print job, the printer will not
continue printing unless I resume printing. But I suspect that is
related to the hardware, not software. Not sure. I do not think a
software pause can be resumed from the printer.

We want that user should go to the printer and manually resume the
print, this is required to ensure stoppage of paper wasteage.

  See above.

Is there anyway to give the print in pause state?

Point a browser at http://localhost:631. Go to the relevant printer,

Whenever a print job goes bad here, I simply cancel the job and create
  a fresh one.

 Hi All,
Today i changed the permission of my /etc directory and it's sub
directories and files using sudo nautilus. And now my everything
including servers and all have stopped working. When i type sudo anywhere
to use it shows an error as -

sudo: /etc/sudoers is mode 0446, should be 0440
sudo: no valid sudoers sources found, quitting
sudo: unable to initialize policy plugin

Can somebody help me to get my system back as it was earlier.. Or is there
any way to restore my system back?

 Thanks in advance...

That's the most worst change any newbie like you can do. You should know
what you're doing particularly when fiddling with the system files and,
 or directories.

When i type sudo anywhere to use it shows an error as -

sudo: /etc/sudoers is mode 0446, should be 0440

You did not tell what was the exact command or what indeed you typed,
hence all I can do is just guess or provide you a hint. Try booting your
system with a live/rescue CD/DVD and executing the following:

 $ sudo mount /dev/partition /mnt
 $ sudo chmod -R o-w /mnt/etc

Substitute the partition with root partition of your Ubuntu installation.

WARNING: The above is also as dangerous as was your attempt to make your
 system unusable.

NOTE: All directories in your /etc including /etc should/can be 0555 or
0755 and the files 0444 or 644, but some sensitive directories and, or
files containing passwords or serious things should/must not even be
readable by others i.e. these directories should/must be 0550 or 0750
 and files 0440 or 0640.

Reboot your system; hope that helps.

 Dear All,
I have to start a project for our internal purpose and that is we have to
create a MTA which will take data from our database(like from, to, message
etc.) and will transfer/receive it to/from other ISPs (e.g. google mail,
yahoo mails). The problem which i think could arise is, our peak time value
for sending/receiving mails would be 5K mails/sec. I can develop normal
server and can use python for this purpose but not sure whether it will be
able to handle 5K mails/sec so thought to ask first.

Managing Big data on MySql is challenging. Many companies do that their own
way, like some partition their users based alphabetically on different
database servers with replications and load balancing for each, resulting
 in 100 DB servers.
Google uses their own home baked nosql DB, BigTable. Facebook uses multi
 Mysql.

 Hello All,

Thinvent is looking for Linux System Developers, who will be
responsible for the development, maintenance and deployment of our
 Linux based products.

We program in C, bash, HTML5, Java-script, Perl, and the occasional
Python. We work with a number of open source communities, contributing
code upstream and behaving like responsible users of free software.

Your typical day will involved writing kernel drivers, CUPS filters,
terminal emulators, Munin plugins, and cloud management applications.
You will debug serial and USB communication, optimise the kernel for
specific architectures, benchmark and test hardware to the point of
destruction, port uboot to new platforms, and write multi-threaded web
applications that can handle thousands of simultaneous connections.

If you live and breathe computers, can extract relevant information
from the Internet at the speed of light, don?t have to refer to man
pages to use console commands, can write shell scripts and C and Perl
programs, can use and abuse package repositories, and would love to be
a part of the team that is building India?s most successful Linux
distribution, then feel free to email me at shub...@thinvent.in or
 call at 9990344223.

Thinvent develops free and open source software solutions. We service
large government clients, design rugged hardware and embedded systems,
produce a Linux distribution of our own, and participate in some of
the largest IT deployments in India. Visit us at www.thinvent.in.

PS: This is a developers job, not an admin job. We are only looking
for people who have been actively coding during last 6 months.

Re: [ilugd] Reverse Engineering (Himanshu anand)

2013-03-25 Thread Aman Thakur
Oh ok, thats great himanshu. I can arrange a good audience for you. Mostly
the students from the engineering or computer sciences. Where you are
planning for the meetup program. Do you have a place for this? Or shall we
mutually decide it.

Regards
Aman
