On my first check for it WZFN is currently (just past 7 am local time)
blasting in here, so I have no doubt it'll get out to the coast before
long. Certainly my easiest new station in quite a while.

I woke up early; LWBC Far East Russians unusually good this morning,
especially for this time of year. 153, 180, 189, 234, 279 at 1243 utc; even
a poor het on 164 Mongolia's frequency. What caught my ear was the song they
were playing--Hark the Herald Angels Sing--the familiar Christmas song,
When I moved to Barre Center, NY (just south of Albion and almost exactly
between Rochester and Buffalo) I created an FM station list of the stations
I expected to hear. (I would have created a TV list too, at least for VHF,
but I already knew I could watch channels 2, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11,
There are no empty FM channels between Rochester and Buffalo. Fact. Now,
apparantly, they are adding translators in Buffalo on Rochester frequencies,
e.g. 96.5.

I realize that you were only trying to help, and I thank you. In October 2006,
I logged a 500 watt station from Wyoming one night, so I know that anything is
a possibility. I found out later that KZQZ is new call sign and new format for
St. Louis. And the only reason that I heard them

Steve,
Nothing like Christmas carols from Mongolia in May! The other night I was
listening to WTKM-FM Hartford WI (on the internet) playing a program of polka
music. It was topped off by 'Rock of
Ages Polka'. Very upbeat version but the lyrics were the same as the normal
'hymn' version of

Although I have little use for HD radio, AM or FM, I just purchased an
HD TV set and I'm growing pretty durned fond of this gadget. Why I
procrastinated through March Madness is moot at this point but once
again I can read the scores on the BKB games in the NBA. I may have to
drag myself away
Mike, I knew I could count on you for encouraging words.

Hey, kashketfeller, if you and I were young once again, we REALLY won't like it

I don't think either one of us could handle Chinese or Arabic ... and even

More OTOT, forgive me. Mike Ratzlaff, I hadn't heard a thing about the Swingle

found that their Bach-work didn't begin until 1962, when I was

There is much wisdom in your words, oh wise guru of krum. What do you mean off
topic? I just heard a call ID from IHR 1260 KSPT San Francisco. They changed

Hell, Don! You'd just get around to them now if you WERE Catholic. By the
way, its easy to tell when its May in San Francisco. Tourists start showing

Don,
There is a HUGE difference between HDTV and so-called HD Radio. HDTV
is worth the investment, HD Radio (IBOC) isn't. I don't have HDTV as
yet. I bought a Toshiba 30 widescreen EDTV (480i/480p) and it looks
great, especially DVDs. As far HD Radio does, IBOC; I will NEVER
purchase one. If I

I can sum up the difference in one sentence. HDTV doesn't suck!
I just succumbed to the temptation of a 57-inch 1080p and its great. Of
course, CNN still puts so much crap on the screen that you can't pay any
real attention to anything.

Not a big deal out here in the West. There was an FM in the Vancouver
BC area which used to broadcast the sounds of whales. Maybe it still
does. On the way down to Portland, OR last month, I heard the same
thing (birds) on an FM frequency but didn't stay with it too long.

A rather active morning here; listened from 1250 to past 1320UT, first some
