Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft question

2010-07-26 Thread Shari

Hi Rich,

I use XP Pro Jaws 10 at work. The alignment commands don't speak when
executed, but if I do a jaws key f, jaws will say which alignment setting is
invoked. Jaws used to speak the alignment after the command. I must have
changed a setting somewhere that affected that speech. Maybe the Jaws key f
will reveal that the alignment commands still work for you.

I have XP home and 10.00
I used to be able to center a line in microsoft word by hitting control E.
Then I would align left by hitting control L.

This command does not work for me now.
I tried to search for this command in menus but could not find it.

Any thoughts?
Thank you.

Hi List,

I haven't followed this thread closely, but you couldn't use the sapi 5
voices, which include the Neospeech Paul and Kate, with versions of Jaws
below version 7, as the earlier versions only accommodates sapi 4
voices.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Texting from PC?

2010-07-26 Thread Larry Stansifer
The following came to me from another list, hope this
answers some questions.

Chris Munoz wrote in an interesting post on Blindtech this
week. He told us how to send text messages via email. If
you don't have a text message plan, you can still send text
messages and receive replies in your email. You just need
the recipients phone number and their cell provider.

If you're friends number is 5552223113, and they are with
tmobile, send an email to:

5552223...@tmomail.net

You can add a subject and put the message in the body of the
email form.

They receive the text message and, when they reply, it comes
to your inbox. Here are the email suffixes yo! u add to
phone numbers for each provider:

Verizon Wireless: (cell#)@vtext.com,

ATT: (cell#)@mobile.att.net,

Cingular: (cell#)@mycingular.com,

Nextel: (cell#)@messaging.nextel.com,

T-Mobile: (cell#)@tmomail.net,

Sprint: (cell#)@messaging.sprintpcs.com,

Tracfone: (cell#)@cingularme.com,

and if unknown carrier: (cell#)@teleflip.com

I'm going to use this method when I'm working and don't have
time to muss about with my phone. It's an easy way to send
text messages and you get the response in your email which
is nice!

[JAWS-Users] Yahoo Groups Page Won't Load Properly With Firefox

2010-07-26 Thread Gerald Levy

I'm not sure whether this probelm is JAWS related or not, but here goes. When
I attempt to access www.groups.yahoo.com using Firefox 3.6.8 with JAWS 9, Jaws
announces the number of headings, links etc. as the page is loading, but once
the page has completely loaded, all the objects on it seem to vanish and the
only thing JAWS recognizes is the title; all the headings, links buttons and
edit fields are gone. Then when I attempt to return to my Google home page,
it, too, is devoid of any headings, links or edit fields. The only way to
restore my home page to normal is to close Firefox and restart it. But when I
try to access the Yahoo page again, the same thing happens: the page loads but
all of its objects seem to disappear. I do not encounter this problem with IE
8, nor with any other web sites. This problem seems to be unique to Yahoo.com.
Does anyone have a clue why this page won't load properly with Firefox? Any
feedback appreciated.

Gerald

Hi Chris, Flor, Negoslav,  TJ;

This is what I have tried;
1. Go into the configuration manager/synthesizer options and select SAPI5
for the default.
2. Jaws key, control, + S and select SAPI5 for the synthesizer in Jaws6.
3. Jaws Key + J for Jaws options, then Individual voices I went through
and

selected Paul as the default voices for the PC, keyboard, tutor messages
voice and Kate as the Jaws cursor voice.
Paul works as the default temporarily. If I invoke the Jaws key + F4
keystroke to unload Jaws and then
reload Jaws6, Paul say Jaws for Windows is ready, and that is it!

If I then invoke the keystroke Jaws key, control, + S keystroke and press
enter on what I know is the SAPI5 synthesizer again. then the Paul / SAPI5
voice
starts working .

What do I have to do to make SAPI5 work without having to invoke the
select

synthesizer keystroke
whenever Jaws6 is unloaded reloaded? Thank you all very much. Your
help

is appreciated immensely. Take care.

I tried everything I could think of to get the page to load: Insert-Escape,
F5, Alt-right arrow, Shift-Enter, but nothing works. It's really strange.
JAWS announces the number of headings frames and links, but when the

 Ctrl+J

After you invoke the control + E keystroke to center the text are you
invoking the control + e keystroke again to turn centering off? I think
that is what you are supposed to do. Below is a brief note that I saved on
 centering text.

If you haven't typed the text you want centered yet, press CTRL+E to turn
centering on, type the text, then press CTRL+E to turn centering off. don't
 forget
to press ENTER twice to put a blank line between the heading and the first
line of the next block of text.

If you have already typed some text and you then decide that you want the
text to be centered, place the cursor in the space immediately following the
 last
character, then select back to the first character of the text you want
centered, then press CTRL+E. The text you selected, will be centered.

Actually, once I got to the message tab, then hit tab, I didn't get any of
those. All I got was things like reply, reply all, message ptions, which
had nothing under it except forward, and that was pretty much it.

Chris,

You should be able to open the message and then press your alt key. If
it doesn't open to the, message tab, then right arrow until you see that
tab. Then tab through your options. Accept, tentative, reschedule and so
on.

Neither am I trying to argue, but I agree completely with Mike on this one.
No, it wasn't as easy to do, as you had to manually edit the jfw.ini file to
make it work, but it was doable, and could be done.

Hi List,

I haven't followed this thread closely, but you couldn't use the sapi 5
voices, which include the Neospeech Paul and Kate, with versions of Jaws
below version 7, as the earlier versions only accommodates sapi 4
voices.

Hi Chris, Flor, Negoslav,  TJ;

This is what I have tried;

If I then invoke the keystroke Jaws key, control, + S keystroke and press
enter on what I know is the SAPI5 synthesizer again. then the Paul /
SAPI5

voice
starts working .

What do I have to do to make SAPI5 work without having to invoke the
select
synthesizer keystroke
whenever Jaws6 is unloaded reloaded? Thank you all very much. Your
help
is appreciated immensely. Take care.

[JAWS-Users] disabling microsoft active sync and jaws not startign automatically

2010-07-26 Thread CrisMunoz54
Hello list,

I don't know if anyone else has experienced this, but I've noticed that when
I uncheck Microsoft ActiveSync from launching upon start up via msconfig,
the start Jaws automatically check box option becomes unchecked.

I had noticed that when I disabled ActiveSync, and the next time I'd restart
my computer be it a restart or the following day, Jaws wasn't coming up.
This took some time for me to figure out, but I finally isolated it to
specifically ActiveSync.

Is this a bug that anyone else has delt with or can someone perhaps try to
recreate it on their end? It's not terribly disruptive or anything, but I
would like to know if it's an issue particular to my machine or a general
JFWissue.

I'm using the latest Jaws 11 release, xp pro and the latest ActiveSync.

Thanks...

1. You need at least Windows 7 professional to use XPMode. Microsoft want
you to load a virtual machine as a part of the process but that is
definitely not supported by jaws.
2. Someone on this list is using Windows XP with a different virtual
environment program and he indicated that it works just fine.
I can't for the life of me think of who that was, though.

Subject: [JAWS-Users] Jaws with Windows xp mode in Windows 7

Hello,

Wondered if anyone has been able to successfully use Jaws 11 in Windows XP
mode in Windows 7 to access or use earlier programs that aren't or won't be
compatible with Windows 7?

If so are there any special settings needed in order to successfully use
Jaws in the Windows XP compatible mode in Windows 7?

Thanks.

Insert+v, f. Press space. In total this will open Adjust JAWS Options,
focuses on focus lost announcement - on, and switches it off. Press
  enter after all that.

Hmmm, not sure why you wouldn't have the same options I have. I'm using
Outlook 2007 Enterprise edition.
The options I have under the meeting tab are, accept, tentative, decline and
propose new time.

had nothing under it except forward, and that was pretty much it.

Chris,

You should be able to open the message and then press your alt key.
If it doesn't open to the, message tab, then right arrow until you see
that tab. Then tab through your options. Accept, tentative, reschedule
and so on.

Re: [JAWS-Users] Microsoft question

2010-07-26 Thread rich

Hi all;
When I check my cursor with alt delete, it appears that the alignment
commands work, even though JAWS does not announce it.

Also, for some reason, when I hit control i, JAWS announces that command.

Also, I checked my verbosity level and is on intermediate.
The Control F and control J commands did not give much information.

Thanks for everybody's input!

Rich

I tried to search for this command in menus but could not find it.

Any thoughts?

The following came to me from another list, hope this
answers some questions.

Chris Munoz wrote in an interesting post on Blindtech this
week. He told us how to send text messages via email. If
you don't have a text message plan, you can still send text
messages and receive replies in your email. You just need
the recipients phone number and their cell provider.

If you're friends number is 5552223113, and they are with
tmobile, send an email to:

5552223...@tmomail.net

You can add a subject and put the message in the body of the
email form.

They receive the text message and, when they reply, it comes
to your inbox. Here are the email suffixes yo! u add to
phone numbers for each provider:

Verizon Wireless: (cell#)@vtext.com,

ATT: (cell#)@mobile.att.net,

Cingular: (cell#)@mycingular.com,

Nextel: (cell#)@messaging.nextel.com,

T-Mobile: (cell#)@tmomail.net,

Sprint: (cell#)@messaging.sprintpcs.com,

Tracfone: (cell#)@cingularme.com,

and if unknown carrier: (cell#)@teleflip.com

I'm going to use this method when I'm working and don't have
time to muss about with my phone. It's an easy way to send
text messages and you get the response in your email which
is nice!

To text our cell phones, which are AtT, I send a message
from my
email program to our phone number--including area code and
no
dashe...@txt.att.net. So, if our number were 800-555-1212,
the
message would go to

8005551...@txt.att.net

I don't know how other carriers work, though.

[JAWS-Users] Jaws not saying selected item

2010-07-26 Thread Sherri
I am on a Del laptop. I am using a platform called Chartnet for transcription.
On my desktop computer, it works fine, but on my laptop, when I select an item
to copy or cut or paste, it will say selected and Not selected, but it will
not tell me what I'm selecting. Is there something I can do to fix the problem?
As I said, it works fine on my desktop. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

[JAWS-Users] Kate Paul voices new twist

2010-07-26 Thread Mike Barbara Arcadia
Hi Chris, Flor, Negoslav,  TJ;

After some playing around I finally got Paul to work as the default voice.
I first had to make Paul the default voice in Speech Properties in the
control panel. Then I made SAPI5 the default synthesizer in the
configuration manager, invoked the keystroke of Jaws key, control, + S
keystroke to select the SAPI5 synthesizer, and finally into Jaws options and
made Paul the default voice in PC cursor, Jaws cursor, Keyboard, Tudor/
messages in the individual voices option. I didn't want to mess around with
the synth.ini file just because I don't have a clue as to what to do in
there. I want to truly thank all of you for all of your help. Take care.
