This is definitely on topic for this list. To get system information for
your computer including whether it is 32 or 64 bit, press Windows key-Pause
and use the JAWS cursor to read the information. The Pause key is the top
right-most key on your keyboard above the numpad.

Hi, there is a much easier way! Go to your C drive. Open it, and look
through your folders, if you have a folder that says program files x86 you
have a 64 bit machine, however if you see only one program files folder,
that says just that "program files, " then you have a 32 bit machine. This
is how VFO group/Freedom Scientific says to do it.

Hi Marilyn,

Try the following:
1. Press, WindowsKey + Pause, to open system properties.
2. Route the Jaws cursor to the PC cursor, Insert + Numpad minus / Jaws
cursor key.
3. Press your page-up key to take the cursor to the top of the page.
4. Arrow down 1 line at a time. Jaws will report XP or Windows7 but, if
it's Windows7 keep arrowing down to find out if it's 32 or 64 bit. If it's
a 32 bit system you might hear something like X86.

Another way to find out:
1. Press your Windows Key to open the start menu.
2. Go to Programs or All Programs press enter.
3. Press enter on Accessories arrow down to system tools press enter.
4. Arrow down to System Information, press enter, tab 1 time, you should
hear what OS you are running. You can also arrow down this list to find out
more information about your computer.

Hit the Windows key and the pause key at the same time and then review the
screen with the JAWS cursor. If it does not say 64 bit then it is a 32 bit
system.

There is a 64 bit XP available but JAWS is not supported on that platform.

64 what? jaws, Windows? Something else?

If you're running 32-bit XP you will want to run 32-bit Jaws with it.

[JAWS-Users] 32 vs. 64 bit

2010-10-05 Thread rich
Hi all.
If I buy a new computer, would it be better to get a 64 bit than a 32 bit one?

I try to hold on to things for as long as possible and would rather be prepared
for future growth, and not have to upgrade in a yearr or so.

What considerations are there. For example, can I transfer all of my programs
and info from my old , 32 bit computer to a new64 bit one?

If all things will be 64 bit in the future, wouldn't it make sense to upgrade
to that system now?

Thanks for any thoughts.

Rich

Re: [JAWS-Users] 32 vs. 64 bit

2010-10-05 Thread RJ
I just bought a 64 bit Compact, And glad I did. All my old programs, so far
work on it. The only problem I had so far, was I loaded JAWS from the J 11
CD and the program would go into demo mode when ever.
Than I downloaded the updates for J 11 and the same thing happen.
un-installed J 11 and downloaded the 64 bit from the F S site and haven't
had that problem since. No, I did not need to activate Jaws again, for some
reason the key was still on the computer.
