gift-giver's Mother's book, and as she was not into NL she thought I might
give it a good home, - rather than throw it away! (Could I Ever!!! :)) )

I always was told that the fat tallies were Maltese, and the long thin ones
were Cluny. Beds people made them to fit the space.
I was shown 2 ways of making tallies - on the pillow, and holding the

Helen referred to the Margaret Hamer booklets. There are 6 of them, 2 each
in Torchon, Beds, and Bucks laces.
They are designed for complete beginners, and some have pattern sheets at
the back.
There is also a similar booklet on Mounting and Finishing Lace, by Hamer and
Waller.

I browsed the sellers other stuff (clicked on the Elegant ArtsAntiques, -
Needlework tools)- and on Page 2 of the list, I came across another bone
bobbin dated 1850 which Does look to be that age.
Have a look in the Scrapbooking supplies. Here in Oz, I found some 3fold
cards with either a square or an oval cut out ready for your
lace/embroidery/whatever to be added, in amongst the scrapbooking paper,
kits etc.. They were $6.99 Aut for a packet of 4 cards, in either all one

That is great news - that a Lacemaker has been recognised for her skills in
the craft.
So many others get noticed for doing strange things with other crafts, that
it is uplifting to know Lace has been recognised.

With Gimp thread spools, or Crochet Cotton spools, I use a bit of Sticky
tape, and stick the labels too the inside of the spool. I try to get the
number of the thread positioned so that I can read it!!
Other than that, I use a permanent marker and write the number on the spool,
or on a sliver
I have an old International Lace Magazine, that I purchsed 2nd hand (it is
dated 1991), and is featuring Valenciennes lace.
It shows round and square ground, and the square ground diagram says :
Made with 4 pairs: with the centre pair, make a linen stitch, and throw in 5
times The diagram
I think Bibilla lace is also sometimes called Armenian Lace. It is a
knotted needlelace.
Elena Dickinson has published a book on Armenian Lace, and there is also a
video of her instructions. She makes it look So easy, - and it is Not!! It
is hard to get all the loops the same size, and nice

Andy Blodgett askes about putting in pins straight or angled.
Well, I Always angle my pins - slightly backwards for the Internal pins, and
'Back and Out' for the edge pins.
However, if working trails, I sometimes ease the pins Back and Out to keep
the work down on the trail pricking.
Sorry, Brenda - but I tried to get to you new site,. so I could change it in
my Favourites, but all I got was the Error page that said This site is
