Alex et al., I realize that copyright has been discussed before on Arachne, but I think it's important that someone respond to Alex's initial statement. I agree with you that once you give out a pattern, you have (almost) no control over who copies it, but it is NOT in the public domain, at least

Hello I totally agree with Alex about the time it takes to design a pattern,then writing out the instructions so everyone who likes the pattern can make it. People just do not realise this. I designed a tablecloth made in squares with an edging in 2001 for Children in Need. A program here

To the points made by Ann, Devon, Nancy, Lorraine & Robin--what can be done to dispel the notion that lace ONLY refers to something pictured in a Holbein painting, or was made by an elderly aunt & smells faintly of dried rose petals? Just pronouncing the word LACE seems to cause brain
