France is the obvious place for him - where most Ligue 1 matches are played
at (it seems) walking pace. I wonder if PSG would still be interested?

Re: [LU] Kalvin?

2024-04-03 Thread Robert Heath
His confidence is obviously completely shot. You can tell if you watch
closely that his team mates, at City, Wham & even England, don't trust him
with the ball and won;t pass to him unless he is in acres of space. And
once you've lost the confidence of your team mates in football, you're
finished.

Re: [LU] Kalvin?

2024-04-03 Thread Richard Walker via Leedslist
Isn't this exactly as it was supposed to play out ?
Before Bielsa, Phillips was hopeless. Bielsa gave him the ideal role where his
pace wasn't exposed in a unique system. It worked the majority of the time but
even then he had some stinkers with Bielsa subbing him early (at half time
once) a few times. He was never going to be nearly good enough for City but one
good England game against poor opposition at Wembley and a few average
performances sat next Declan Rice and others in midfield seemed to have fooled
some people. Pep obviously took one look at him in training and decided he
wasn't good enough. A good manager ! He played a ridiculous amount of football
for City over 2 years and the one thing we know about KP is that he was always
slow to get back to form after absence. So now he's thrown on the frontline for
the Hammers and he hasn't a chance. Playing as an out and out midfielder in the
premier league he just stands out as not being good enough and he's still not
getting the game time because he's making mistakes and showing his lack of pace
every game. He's so slow and he's never going to be good enough.
Would I have him back at Leeds ? No way., especially if we get promoted.
The only way back for Philips is for him to accept what he is and drop down a
league or 2 and try to rebuild his career.
He's got enough brass though so we shouldn't feel sorry for him.
The Yorkshire Piroe - not a chance.

Re: [LU] Kalvin Phillips' averageness in stats.

2019-08-14 Thread Richard Naef
If you don't try difficult things and occasionally fail (16%) then what's the
point. Perhaps some of the 16% did cause problems but that's what the other 10
players are for and Bielsa isn't going to criticise him for that.

I think Dave made the point that comparing Batty to Macca was pointless as
there attempts at passing were of completely different types. KP is a
defensive midfielder, very little gets through BUT he also sets up counter
attacks and plays defence splitting passes. If you think he's average your are
entitled to your opinion, but I just think that's plain wrong and not born out
by the facts of last season or the beginning of this, maybe you need to amend
your expectations of a top championship DM? Who are you comparing him with?

Most of the game Phillips sat in midfield with noone anywhere near him. During
the game I told the boy I could sit there and do that too and give the ball
away less (some hyperbole there of course). With Rich a bit here, stats do not
tell everything. 100 short passes looks great and is not necessarily a bad
thing but when 4/5 through balls go straight to the other side and sets up
their attack there is nothing wrong with pointing that out.

stats are stats and looking at those they mean nothing. For instance they don't
include his shot that went over the stand in the first half.

I'd prefer to go with what I saw and overall I thought Philips did ok with a
definite improvement in the second half with one or two really good passes.

First half though, he was dreadful. His passing was all over the place,
frequently giving the ball away (that must have been the 16% inaccurate
passes). The most worrying thing is when he got done for pace by Towell and you
could see he just didn't have the acceleration to recover.

I like Philips, he's a local lad and he's doing ok at this moment in time but
let's have a reality check. Some fans are saying he could be England captain
whereas I think he's a good championship player and would struggle in the PL.

It makes me laugh when fans get all upset when you point out a player's faults
in a match and get all abusive and start crying particular on Twitter however
there are 1 or 2 snowflakes on here. Come on, grow up FFS.

the boy I could sit there and do that too and give the ball away less (some
hyperbole there of course). With Rich a bit here, stats do not tell everything.
100 short passes looks great and is not necessarily a bad thing but when 4/5
through balls go straight to the other side and sets up their attack there is
nothing wrong with pointing that out.

stats are stats and looking at those they mean nothing.
