But the .CFG file most likely does not contain any genealogical data; only data
that the computer needs to display the info from the programs main data file
which the OP does not mention if she has. In this case, her .CFG is similar to
Legacy's .USR files which contain info about the user's
I've begun receiving pop-ups saying "Please wait while Legacy configures
Roxio". Why?

The link Sherry from Support gave is helpful, so when I opened a copy of
the file with Notepad among the spaces and strange combination of
characters identified "Mindscape Family Tree Creator Deluxe". Which
brought to my recall that the person who gave the file to me used a
family tree software
Thanks Russ, the website you suggested seems to offer the software. I'm
not interested in purchasing more software. I'm hoping that someone has
_Mindscape Family Tree Creator Deluxe_ on their computer and will
volunteer to help me with this file.
The file is named "McDowellDescendents" which
I had relatives who stated all their ages as "Over 21" in the 1930 census.
They were so secretive about their ages that it carried over to death as their
grave stones only showed a death year and no birth dates.

Elizabeth,
Google the name of that software and see if anybody has a copy of it or
could make a gedcom from your file. Here is a link I found
http://www.glodoksoft.com/product.php?id_product=2325
and a definition of the program:
Mindscape Family Tree Creator Deluxe
Here everything you need to
You need to use a text editor such a ultra edit or maybe notepad.

Is there any way to make all the boxes in a chart the same size?
Sizing options controls the length but not the width independently.
“Make all boxes the same” in the Box option controls the shape.

Aha, it sounds as if you do have a genealogical data file from the other
software program and that is what you wish to view. Without purchasing a copy,
you'd need to find someone who already has the program and would be willing to
open your file and hopefully save it back into a GEDCOM file
I had the same problem until I uninstalled Roxio. I think Roxio and Legacy are
using a file with the same extension. It's the only thing I could figure out.

Now that gay marriages are legalized and whether we agree with them or not some
may have them in their family. How do you record them, and the children that
may be adopted between the couple?
I know this has in the past caused controversy but now that it’s legalized how
do we deal with it.
The OP can most likely open the .CFG file using Notepad which generally will
display everything in a text-like fashion. Yes, you can even open .JPG files
using Notepad but instead of seeing a graphic, you’ll be greeted with a bunch
of mumbo-jumbo text. If you look closely at the .JPG in
