Mike this was the solution.
I assumed the part was a dysfunctional file
There was no indication that the download was in progress.
I had not waited long enough for the update to complete.

The saga continues. I tried again with the same result- a part file that
wouldn't open. I then went on with some other work and went to the desk
top and there was the Legacy.exe file I opened it and brought up the
sample file I went to Help - About - General it was V 282

I'm still using 7.5 haven't converted anything to 8 yet. When I open 7.5
I'm told that Legacy 7.5 did not load properly and to fix the problem I
should go to the web site. I'm also given the option to install the new version
or continue. If I click yes the only thing that comes up on

need 7.5 there is access to earlier versions.

Questions section on the right of the page near the top. There, you
will find a link for earlier versions of Legacy. That takes you to

Hi Anne,
I'm not an expert on these things, but it sounds to me like your
download got interrupted somehow and didn't finish.
I've downloaded a copy from that page just now and it completed properly.
If I were you, I would give it another try.

downloaded. If the download fails, then the .part extension will still be on
the filename. It means that the download is partial. Delete it and try to get

If you have Legacy 7.5 on your computer you can open your 7.5 files no problem.
