I created a gmail account just for this group. Gmail also groups the emails by topic. In this way I can drop by anytime to check it out and it does not get in the way of my regular email. G.C. Julie Hite wrote: How can I set this forum to a once a day list of posts rather than having each post be a separate email? Julie Why? The actual volume of text would be about the same. You'd get one very long message instead of many short ones. Your solution should be to instruct your email reader to filter all the Legacy messages into a separate folder. Then they won't get in the way of your other mail. Also, you'd be able to organise them by thread rather than having them in the order that they arrived. This allows you to follow the threads that interest you and ignore those that don't. -- Best regards, Mike Fry Johannesburg. RE: [LegacyUG] PURPOSE OF USER-FORUMS ?
I asked the same thing recently. I think it is referred to as the digest mode at least on the Rootsweb mailing lists. Probably one reason why they don't use it is because people who respond to a compilation of many messages will be reposting all those messages again and again. RE: [LegacyUG] PURPOSE OF USER-FORUMS ?
One final thought. In addition to the usual Ancestry.com site, they also have these other sites: Ancestry.com Corporate MyFamily.com Genealogy.com RootsWeb.com FamilyTreeMaker.com MyCanvas.com AncestryMagazine.com Brian in CA PS - I'm surprised that nobody has ever questioned why Legacy has a direct program link to a competitor's (FTM) web site of genealogical databases (ancestry.com). Seems a little strange to me but I guess that's admitting that Ancestry.com is the leading on-line database, something that Millennia has no interest in entering into. And for that, I'd say they were correct. I wonder if the very old versions of Legacy had this link before Ancestry bought out FTM. That might explain why its still there...never bothered to take it out. -Original Message- From: Mary Horner [mailto:maryhor...@shaw.ca] Sent: Tuesday, November 03, 2009 9:12 PM To: LegacyUserGroup@legacyfamilytree.com Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] PURPOSE OF USER-FORUMS ? Re: [LegacyUG] PURPOSE OF USER-FORUMS ?
Just to answer your PS. The link to upload to Ancestry Online Family Trees was added in Legacy 3.0. It did not exist in Legacy 2.0. I cannot comment on why it is still there but Ancestry online family trees one of the biggest, if not the biggest, place for users to upload their family tree information. ... wrote: Thanks Ron - I'll take a look at the terms. You choose not to discuss it here, but others first brought up their experiences with Ancestry.com as it related to uploads or downloads. But I hope this user forum for Legacy is not so narrow as to disallow a related genealogy subject. From the Legacy User Group Guidelines: The purpose of the LUG is to provide a forum for mutual help and the friendly exchange of ideas related to the use of Legacy Family Tree and its add-on programs, only.
