Because the MP3000 is passing the data through OS/2 you have to use 1492

From what I've read in this list server, LVM is the best way to
concatenate dasd volumes together to create a large pool of space. I
need to create a 40GB pool. I've been trying to get LVM installed on

IPL'ing z/VM without a 3x74 is possible. The OPERATOR console goes to the
LPAR's Operating System Message window. You can issue issue commands from
there.

is it possible to ipl z/vm in an lpar without a 3270 controller and a
3270 display, using the hmc display? then acquire the operator console
via tn3270 via the osa?
In practical terms, no. You MUST have a 3270 controller to INSTALL z/VM.
Regards, Jim
Jim is right. To install z/VM you need a controller... but to IPL z/VM
after installation no controller is needed.

Chet,
You're being a pioneer here (also known as arrow magnet). Red Hat decided
to leave out LVM in their 7.2 distribution because of concerns about it's
stability. For your purposes, you can accomplish the same thing using
software raid0 to aggregate volumes. There are a couple of examples

Hi Dave,
Since you are considering DFDSS I assume you have the 2.4 kernel with CDL
support? In that case I would use OS/390 RACF to protect the volumes,
whether they are online or not. RACF DASDVOL can protect them from ICKDSF
when they are offline and from DFDSS etc when they are online. Then
You can use HCD to isolate devices to an LPAR using the PARTITION parm but
of course this is only good at the LPAR level. What goes on inside between
VM guests is another matter (that can be handled). Nevertheless I would
think there are still some risks with leaving the DASD online to an OS/390
With z/VM 4.3 the service processor signal that tells the operating system
the LPAR is about to power down has been virtualized. Using the SERVC
instruction (the relevant parameter lists etc. have been opened to the
public) you can register that you interested in receiving such a signal.
Thus
