Our INFOSEC department is requiring all Linux Servers to have Anti-Virus
software installed.
For X86 we are using Commercial Symantec software - there appears to be NOTHING
for s390x out there ...
Anyone have any experience with AV on Linux on Z and can make any
recommendations ?
Hi all,
this is my first question on this mailinglist, so please be gentle :-)
I am interested in knowing what Antivirus software packages are available
in zLinux. I know of the existence of ClamAV, OpenAntiVirus, AmaViS,
MIMEDefrag. I like to know if any of you are using an Antivirus package

ClamAV is probably the most common. Most people don't run AV software on
Linux for Z because a) Intel viruses have no effect on 390, and b) AV
software generally is a CPU pig, and it's more cost-effective to
delegate that to a off-platform Intel box.

The things that need protection is email and files.
The short answer is, you're better off doing this with a scanner on
x86(_64, if you like) boxes.
I did in fact put together an email scanner based on Exim,

While e-mail scanning makes sense (though it should be done on an outboard
scanner - not on the mainframe, IMO), I'm not sure the balance of risk

I suspect you have more than one clamav installed and therefore you
might have some strange combination of lib and path.
I'd check the following:
which clamscan# to see where it's executed from
ldd `which clamscan` # to see what libs are accessed
strings `which clamscan` | grep conf # to see
Anyone in here using clam AV in production?
I get the error:
LibClamAV Error: cl_loaddb(): Can't open file ¸WÍ!´Í!2íL/daily.cvd
when I try to run clamscan. Path is corrupted somehow? - don't know where.
I do know that I have 3 copies of daily.cvd:

What else should one do with the tools that come with Clam? We're not doing

RAV was bought by Microsoft not so very long ago. You can't get it from
