OK, I got the linux source tree from SuSE. I was able to apply the UTSG
Cisco CLAW patch successfully. I then did the following:
make oldconfig

A find command cannot find sysinfo.o or sysinfo.c. This problem was
introduced
I found the problem. Patch linux-2.4.7-s390-3.diff was applied with
?dry-run, which means it was not actually applied. This patch is the one
that creates the sysinfo.c.
I apologize for jumping the gun. The scary part is this stuff is starting
to make sense!

I am having the same problem. I just built a Linux 2.4.17 kernel and saw
the same message escape characters on the S/390 HMC console. I have not
seen any other problems except this one. Did the previous suggestion

work fine with simple authentication (-x). However, it is PAM that

eventually corrected. Our main problem was caused by the CICS Transaction
Gateway (ctg) not returning control from the Linux INIT script. I will

weekend, we installed an IFL and I reconfigured the Linux LPARs to share
the IFL. All seems well and everything seems to be functioning but I am
seeing the
dispatch attributes. I think sa will just start a new
one.

We are running 2 SuSE Linux 8.1 SP03 in native LPARs using a new IFL. On
the HMC, the Linux LPAR profiles specify LINUX only under the general
tab. We then select Not dedicated integrated facility for Linux to allow
the two Linux LPARs to share the IFL.
We are now getting ready to install z/VM

We just installed z/VM Version 5.1 and got it up and running. Does anyone
have a recommendation for z/VM training that is Web Base Training (WBT) or

The manual specifically shows an A, is the manual incorrect or am I still

Thank you. Removing the A corrected my problem. I do not know if it is
necessary or not. We have no users logged on to z/VM. We just installed it
and are trying to become somewhat familiar with it.

I have 3 QDIO OSAs defined to z/VM V5.1 TCP/IP with VIPA and mproute. All
works great and access to z/VM is via the VIPA. I have no z/VM Guest yet. I
configured a vswitch with the same 3 OSAs and then configured a vswctrl1
controller.

I restored my root file system to recover from this error. I restored
everthing except /var, /tmp, /home, and /opt. SuSE told me to run mkinitrd
and then a zipl. I never ran the mkinitrd. YAST2 no longer shows these
updates as available. I assume because the RPM database still thinks that
