Up until this week their response time from Israel was atrocious, because
they only had a farm in Seattle. As of this week, they offer virtual hosting
in New York as well, so it's probably just going to be horrible, rather than
atrocious. But their service works very well, and they are very well
 connected within the US.

Disclosure: a satisfied user of vpslink in Seattle (They deliver bandwidth,
which I care about; latency, I care less about; I'll probably switch to New
 York soon).

prgmr.com is a little cheaper than vpslink - you can get a 128MB xen VM with
reasonable CPU and great bandwidth for $6/month on a monthly basis
($4.5/month or so on a yearly basis), but they are even farther away from
Israel in San Jose. I like their slogan: We don't assume you're stupid.
Haven't had a chance to use them so far, but heard good things about them.

Thanks Eli,

what other plans do you have? who is maintaining those servers?

I'm actually looking for a host of my current site (
http://itay.bazoo.org ), which doesn't need many resources, plus a
place i can experiment on with various ideas and projects. Maybe even
put asterisk on it.

Something comparable to Link3 or Link4 on vpslink:

How about European providers? Is Israel still connected to Europe

That is the end of the story for me. While Netvision surely was the

last year has been terrible. They are not providing me service (they
claim that the problem is with my infrastructure, Bezeq, even though
it clearly is not), refusing to give me technical support (on the
basis that if Bezeq has a problem that must be taken care of first),
and charging me for service that they are not providing. They want 800
NIS to release me from a 400 NIS contract. In fact, at 10:30 today I
have a meeting with my lawyer about Netvision.

Netvision wants our money, not our business. They will get neither.

I should note that I only said the servers were hosted in Netvision to
indicate that they have a good connection to the outside world. As an
eonspace.net customer, I never had to deal with Netvision directly.

It may still be an issue for you, or it may not - I just wanted to note that.

really good package (for the price I satisfied), for small personal sites or

My web-sites is hosted on http://www.shlomifish.org/meta/hosting/
(eonspace.net). It's an operation of one or two people, which I can give the
details in private emails. I have mostly static HTML there (generated using
http://web-cpan.berlios.de/latemp/ and uploaded to the server using rsync) and
a few Perl CGI scripts. It is a few servers hosted in Netvision, and was able
to successfully sustain at least two Slashdot effects (one of them was thanks
to Dotan).

I'm happy with the hosting there. There were a few outages or other problems
(some of them due to my fault), but it has the advantage of being very
personal service. I can always reach my hostmaster using email, phone/mobile,
etc. and he'll investigate and remedy the problem I'm having. And the price is
cheap and affordable.

I should note that the new server supports much more than I'm utilising. They
are an up-to-date CentOS release with support for most modern stuff and web
technologies, and I'm getting a fully functional ssh access. I once installed
a Drupal instance there, but eventually I gave up on the idea of having the
Drupal-based site I had in mind (of no fault of the hosting service).
