Is there an easy way to clean out, say, all messages older than a month from an mbox
style mailbox file? I am thinking of evebntually having this run via cron once in a
while to clean out my lug mailing lists etc.

Ok so I can setup the ntp package to get/set the time on my server via
ntp servers on the net.
I could also get all my windows and linux clents to get/set their own
time from the internet. However I would prefer to get the server to sync
with the internet and then the other clients on my lan get

I have done the same, it is very cool however it doesnt handle the contacts folder
correctly. I am connecting to the exchange server as an IMAP4 server.

I don't think cyrus will do pop as well as imap, but once you've got
into imap you will want to ditch pop anyway!

While we're on the subject of distributions: which distro's use kernels
that are close to the stock-standard (linux-xx.tar.gz) kernel? I know
Redhat does bad things to theirs...
I believe Mandrake does plenty to theirs.

pretty much any atapi (ide) drive will work. As should any scsi that has
a supported scsi controller to attach to. If you want to get into more
exotic stuff like usb or firewire then it would pay to ask questions
about specific models and see if other people have them working.

If you look on the net you will see that a lot of people are having
success with home brewed dirrectional antannas and 802.11. The antennas
are generally made out of a pringles chip can (I kid you not). I don't
have any url's at present but the usual google process will find some.
