I am not 100% sure but expect it has to do with "nonstandard" font sizes:

   ... the package fix-cm also enables continuous scaling of the CM
   fonts.

   --- fix-cm.pdf

Still, fix-cm can be considered obsoleted by the lmodern package providing
scalable vector fonts compatible to CM instead of the bitmapped EC fonts.

   Be careful when using arbitrary, non-standard font sizes with
   applications that need bitmap fonts: You may end up with lots of
   possibly huge .pk files.

   --- fix-cm.pdf

Therefore, LyX should use LModern whenever the font encoding is T1 unless
a documentclass selects/requires a different font.

No error, but still wrong output.
Do you expect _any_ latin font be able to display
Japanese chars?

Then, the tests could be added to unreliable:wrong-output.

And with fonts set to LModern?

With fix-cm there is no error message, but the output is, frankly speaking,
shit.
Without, there is the same message as in other beamer files.

Nor do I. (I don't have japanese support installed)

What is the error message?
Are they actually fixed with "fix-cm"?

This also cures the use of dead ugly bitmapped EC fonts auto-substituted for
the default CM because LyX sets the font encoding to T1!

Please change the example(s) to use Latin Modern fonts.
Instead of inserting \usepackage{lmodern}, change the font settings
(in the GUI or in the lyx sources).

Any current LaTeX distribution supporting "beamer" should also ship
LModern fonts.

OK, instead of \usepackage{fix-cm}
the entry \usepackage{lmodern}
works too. At least for pdflatex.

Now tried with module fix-cm, but although the tex-part starts as expected, it
does not
seem to use fix-cm.sty (according to latex log).
Moreover, it also prevents the use of \usepackage{fix-cm} later in the preamble.
So the only working case is my first try (adding to end of preamble).

Interesting we already have the feature, so it is sufficient to add module
"fix-cm".

It would be even better to be able to use the feature automatically. Do
you know why the error triggers in this case?

Hm, according to documentation of fix-cm, the tex source should start with
\RequirePackage{fix-cm}
before \documentclass. How can that be achieved?
We don't have any label in layouts like
AtStartOfPreamble

Interesting we already have the feature, so it is sufficient to add module
"fix-cm".
