Re: flatpak

2024-01-10 Thread T Rex
The package has permission to access documents and all work should be done
in that directory. Access permissions can be changed as needed by the user
with commands or with flatseal.

Additionally, because I was not given permission to access the /tpm
directory (maybe I am not explaining it well), the temporary files must be
stored in a documents directory so that they can be accessible, the
directory must have been created ( documents/.tpmlyx). It is necessary to
view the PDFs, lyx must be configured to store its temporary files in a
document directory.

Flatpaks in general can make requests to open files but if they are in the
sanbox they cannot be viewed. In my case, when I click on View, a window
opens where it allows me to select any installed PDF viewer.

The tests I have done are based on running the files in help. I will review
the concerns raised.

I do have org.kde.Platform. So I figured I was launching lyx incorrectly and it
runs now.
Loaded random file of mine and I see several issues:
- when trying to view pdf, won't be processed (latex error: cannot determine
size of graphics in figs/...)
- neither bibliography is found.

Maybe I am not allowed to load my documents in normal home? I see that the file
is actually opened in
some /run/user/ sandbox. Can this be allowed?

So I tried to create new simple file:
- I can't export my files - latex is there but postscipt files won't be
processed (epstopdf probably missing)
- I can't see pdf ouput (perhaps some pdfviewer should be part of the

Hello, I think the package is quite advanced. Of the features mentioned, I
need to incorporate docbook, the problem is that the sources produce errors
when compiling them, patches must be applied. I have added via plugins to
lilypond and sweave/knitr, it seems like the best to me.

As for sweave/knitr, I really don't know if it is necessary to install
additional R packages, it surely is. If that is the case I suppose it
should be necessary to install a compiler.

Reviewers mentioned that the appdata.xml file was incomplete, so I used a
different one. Although you may not be able to use a generic one due to the
customization of the information that must be provided regarding the
contents of the package.

Since my use of lyx is not very advanced, I had not worried about that. You
are right, regarding the characteristics you mention, I think that their
incorporation should not present any problems, it will only slightly
inflate the package that is currently 30M for my system without obviously
having the environment with texlive.

I was considering flatpacking some time ago. The problem with LyX is that
its extremely dependent on many other external utilities to work well.
And it seemed to me that it's difficult to make all that work well.
I will be happy if you prove me wrong.

Sure, you can compile it, but whether that makes that system useful
is altogether different thing. So if you put that on flathub, please
make clear it's limitations, so people know what works and it's not
equivalent to properly packaged version within standard distributions.

Things to test out of my pocket:
- python
- TeXLive / common packages
- docbook
- image conversion via imagemagick
- svg conversion (either inkscape or rsvg-convert needed)
- some pdf and html viewer should be available

It's fine to edit lyxrc.defaults, I think. This is basically a normal
thing for distributions to do, though there may be some better way to do
it. Perhaps someone else will know.

What changes did you make, out of curiosity?

First, the GPL license surely allows it, so long as you make
the source code available (which is obviously not a problem).
Second, I can't imagine that any of us would object. Indeed,
if you do go ahead, please send us the link, so we can add it
to the download section of our website.

Perhaps we should even include the manifest in our git
codebase somewhere? That would need a bit more discussion.

I have sent the add request to flathub. The compilations I have made have
been successful, however I have had to make some unexpected maneuvers to
allow the program to function correctly, such as editing lyxrc.defaults. I
don't know if there is a better way. Without the modification the buttons
to build and view are blocked.

Not a dev, just wanted to chime in to say that i would be cool to have
an officially supported flatpak, as to have the checkmark on flathub.
Relevant bugtracker ticket from a year ago
https://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/11143. If you manage to get a flatpak
working it could be a starting point.
