Re: lyx: Inverted question mark

 Dear LyX users,

looks pretty good. One thing I like about it is its internationalisation
(?). My girlfriend is doing a Spanish course so I thought I would set LyX
up for her to write in Spanish. If I use the american-2.kmap I
have no problems with accents, but I'm not sure how to get an inverted
question mark. In latex I think it is just '? and also '! but these will
need to be set as TeX commands in LyX, and they won't appear on the
screen. Is there an easy way to bind a key to this so it appears upside
 down on the screen?

If your X-Server is setup correctly to use the compose key, you can
insert it just by typing "Compose ? ?" and you get "¿" (even works in
other programs like xterm/bash and emacs then...)

Re: installing lyx 1.0

1999-02-24 Thread Tony Dancer

Thanks for the info - did as per your sugegstion and it started off
fine...

After a VERY long time compiling (funny how you never actually remember a
486 being so slow), the compile on lyx failed with the following:
/tmp/cca00130.s: Assembler messages: -1.0.0/po'
/tmp/cca/00130.s:70023: Internal error!1.0.0/src'
Assertion failure in tc_gen_reloc at targ-cpu.c line 3013.yx_cb.C
Please report this bug

For quite a while the make failed because there was not enough virtual
storage. I am now using a 13mb swapfile (not partition) and there is 18mb
currently free on the hard disk (about 23-25 if i make clean the lyx
installation).

Anyone ideas whats going on, and whether it is fixable?

Tony seem many, including some warnings. It seems to occur in data.o
Tony and sxpm.o and types.h, and says, for example:

Tony file or diretory /usr/include/sys/bytesex.h:6: /linux/version.h
Tony No such file or diretory /usr/include/sys/errno.h:27:

You need to make sure that you install the kernel sources and that
/usr/include/linux points to /usr/src/linux/include (the exact name
 might be wrong).

Spacing between equations and paragraphs

1999-02-24 Thread Oscar Lopez

Hi all,
I am trying to write an article with lyx and it is neccesary to specify
some aspects, such as the space between the equation and the above and
below paragraphs must be fixed to 6pt.
How can I manage this with lyx ?
Thank you in advance for any hints

Lyx for multiauthor documents

1999-02-24 Thread Francesc Moll

Hello,

Here I go again, I installed (actually, the sysadm installed) a recent
version of LaTeX and everything works fine. I'd like to ask you for advice
in the following:

I am involved in the project of writing a book. There will be five more
people located in two continents writing different parts of the book. Two
people (including me) are more or less experienced LaTeX users, while the
rest are new to LaTeX, so I thought LyX would be very useful for them (and
I found out it would be for me, also). My question is: what are the main
difficulties or shortcomings we should face because of having several
authors?

I saw there is the possibility of inserting a lyx file into another one, so
I think we could e-mail lyx files to the project master and he could
include the different files and compile them. Am I right? I saw a message
in this list saying LyX was not recommended for multiauthor documents. Why?

Any suggestion or comment will be highly appreciated. Our alternative to
LyX seems to be MSWord, so I am willing to do *whatever* it takes to make
LyX/LaTeX a viable choice.

Thanks,

Francesc

And is that a problem on your system?

yes, see below

 JMarc

I first thought my install was successful,
but i am now discovering problems
some of which i have not yet fixed. Help welcome :-)

1 i could not print direct from menu, a dvips config problem
  (no native lpr here)
  in /usr/local/teTeX/texmf/dvips/config/config.ps need to edit
line: o |lpr
into: o |lp

==

2 i could print Intro and Tutorial (with some
mentions of Tex errors and wrong parameters),
but UserGuide wont print beyond page 16:
[30 Tex errors detected, you should try to fix them]

UsrGuide.log looks like this:
.
[16]
! Undefined control sequence.
\reserved@a -\@nil

l.4688 \texttt{\~{}/.lyx/lyxrc}
%
The control sequence at the end of the top line
of your error message was never \def'ed. If you have
misspelled it (e.g., `\hobx'), type `I' and the correct
spelling (e.g., `I\hbox'). Otherwise just continue,
and I'll forget about whatever was undefined.
.etc, etc...

is this a doc, lyx, teTeX or sgi install problem?
--i don't know.

===

3. i have not yet located a source of Xpm version 4.7 for irix
