ANNOUNCE: LyX 1.1.5fix2

2000-10-19 Thread Jean-Marc Lasgouttes

Dear LyX Users,

I am glad to announce the release of LyX 1.1.5fix2, which fixes many
bugs present in versions 1.1.5 and 1.1.5fix1. While fix2 has no new
features, you are advised to upgrade to this version, which should
prove more stable.

You can get it at:
 ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable/lyx-1.1.5fix2.tar.gz
 ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/lyx-1.1.5fix2.tar.gz

A patch against 1.1.5fix1 is available at:
 ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/stable/patch-1.1.5fix2.gz
 ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/patch-1.1.5fix2.gz

Binary RPMs for Redhat Linux/i386 are available at:
 ftp://ftp.lyx.org/pub/lyx/bin/1.1.5fix2/lyx-1.1.5fix2-1.i386.rpm
 ftp://ftp.devel.lyx.org/pub/lyx/lyx-1.1.5fix2-1.i386.rpm

What's new
==

** Bugfixes

- fix problem where format version of a .lyx file was written as 2,16
instead of 2.16 and could not be read back correctly.

- check when writing lyx files failed due to some stream error (in
  particular not enough disk space).

- increase limit on the number of menus from 32 to 128 (useful for
documents with many sections or labels).

- fix display problems with math macros.

- fix error box positionning with math macros.

- add missing \protect around fragile math decorations.

- allow entering @ in math insets.

- improve parsing of some LaTeX errors.

- fix parsing of LaTeX errors for literate programming documents.

- fix crash when copying bibliography insets.

- fix crash with the character layout popup with some locales.

- Better behavior when a RTL paragraph is ended by LTR text.

- fix bug with RTL table floats.

- fix parsing of \set_color arguments in lyxrc.

- speed-up redrawing when doing backspace on the last line of a
  paragraph.

- clear the minibuffer when clicking on it.

- remove temporary directories when using lyx --export.

- remove description of pdf support on lyxrc.example, since this does
  not work in this version.

- hopefully fix compilation problems on Redhat 7.0 and Irix 6.5.

** Updates

- fix czech keymap.

- update sciword.bind.

- update hollywood, amsart, amsbook and revtex4 classes; new class siamltex.

- the language "francais" has been removed from the list; one should use
"french" instead (or the GUTenberg version)

- Other: documentation update (new localised Table of Contents), UI
translation updates (translators, please send me updated po files
  for 1.1.5fix2!).

Remaining problems
==

These are bugs which are probably small, and mostly appeared recently.
Good clients for a fix release. Note that they exist in 1.1.6 too, so
we'll have to fix them eventually. Please send me references to the
ones I forgot.

- clipboard-related crashes

- crash when changing layout
  http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-devel@lists.lyx.org/msg13171.html

- sometimes workAreaButtonRelease is called with button == 0 (this has
already been discussed, but not fixed as far as I know)
  http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-devel@lists.lyx.org/msg12987.html

- When the cursor is between two spaces, then the Shift-Cursor
selection keys will lead to a mangled selection (on screen)
  http://www.mail-archive.com/lyx-devel@lists.lyx.org/msg12431.html

- it is not possible to remove empty paragraphs with backspace when
they have "KeepEmpty 1" (as in LyX-Code)

Hello all,
dos someone provide a debian (.deb) package for Lyx-1.1.5fix1, perhaps there
might be already one anywhere but I don't know it.
Thanks for the new fix

as default choose layout->document->spacing->onehalfspacing

and for the sections look at

Yes, please.

Upload it to ftp.devel.lyx/pub/incoming and I move it to the correct

displaystyle in LyX

2000-10-19 Thread manuel madrigal

Hi,

I'm using \displaystyle in a fraction by using LyX. I save this file,
test.lyx, which part of it is like that:

\layout Standard

\begin_inset Formula
\[
\frac{\displaystyle \sum _{1}^{2}x}{y}\]

\end_inset

\the_end

I close and load test.lyx, but LyX doesn't recognise the command
\displaystyle and the solution is to type it again!!. Do you have the
correct solution?.

Thanks,

Manuel

Hi, Kate.

You would appear not to have the libstdc++ installed on your machine. I'm
rather surprised that configure did not spot this and warn you.

This is an absolute must as LyX uses the std C++ library everywhere. Just
download the appropriate library for your version of gcc and away you go.

try the following

List of Figures and Tables <- with chapter-layout

\renewcommand*\listfigurename{\thesection\hspace{1em} Figures}
\renewcommand*\listtablesname{\thesection\hspace{1em} Tables}

this may help:

and than

Request for feature...

2000-10-19 Thread Matt Bandy

Hi everyone. I discovered LyX about 2 months ago, and I love it. I'm
writing my dissertation with it now, and it's wonderful.

I would like to suggest a modification, however. At the moment, Lyx
requires a display even for export to LaTeX. This means that if I am
connected over a slow link I can't export another version of my document
for download or emailing, which is a minor annoyance. In particular, I
have a script that exports a version of the document to many
formats (dvi, html, ps, pdf, txt), and I would like to put this on a
nightly cron job, so my current draft will be avialable to the faculty at
all times, in a variety of formats. But the display requirement means I
can't export the initial .tex file that I need for the script unless I am
actually logged in. (running on Linux, heavily-modified RH 6.0)

If anyone has a suggestion, please let me know. Otherwise, this is simply
a request. A polite one, I hope. I find LyX extrmemely useful, and very
well-designed. Many thanks to all responsible.

I think this is not true anymore since two weeks or so.

Just grab current CVS and try again ;-)

In the meantime you could use xvfb to create the illusion of a running X
for LyX while doing the export.

Yes, this was the key for the vigvam :) I installed xpm-devel-...rpm and ./configure ,
make and make install did the rest. But when typed at the prompt "lyx", I only
received the following message:

error in loading shared libraries: libc.so.5: cannot open shared object file: no such

What am I doing wrong this time? This library as I know is for compatibility reasons
with older programs. The package "libc...rpm" that contains it is installed, I'm sure.
The machine runss RedHat 6.0

10x to all that received me.

THIS IS NOW SUPPORTED - GREAT

Including a SUPPORT for \citep

"text before author" ]["text after year"

Check out - it is fantastic!

I wouuld yet have 2 small requests in order to make the insertation
citation perfect!

a.It would be nice to have an insertation box such that there would

exist 2 boxes one with TEXT BEFORE the other with TEXT AFTER.
b. It would be nice to have a "radiobutton" where it would be possible
to choose between
the citation commands without a * and the citation commands with a *

   (\cite{} vs \cite*{} and \citep vs. \citep*{})

If these request are easy to implement they would be welcome. Otherwise
not.

What about the meta-i i keystroke???
Earlier it could be used for insertation of references now it want to
include something instead.
To what is meta-i-i actually assigned in 1.1.6cvs? Meta-i-i for
citation reference is useful.

It is also great news to know that support of the XML fileformat is under way.

It will greatly extend the file-sharing possibilities between different document or

word processors. That is a must and will motivate the use of LyX among a broader group

of users in the future!

Best regards,

Staffan.
