The \thanks command really is a sort of footnote command:

\long\def\thanks#1{\footnotemark
\protected@xdef\@thanks{\@thanks
\protect\footnotetext[\the\c@footnote]{\@IEEEcompsoconly{\itshape
\protect\@IEEEtriggeroneshotfootnoterule\relax}\ignorespaces#1}}}

so that's probably why. Of course, that doesn't make it transparent to
new users what to do,
though it is illustrated in the template, I believe.

Thanks Jürgen, good to know.
But... Why was such an unintuitive, easter-egg-like choice made?

Which is achieved in LyX by inserting a footnote in the author
paragraph.

From a quick look at the sample files, it seems that you need a
\thanks{} command in the Author field.
If nothing else works, you can always insert some LaTeX code; thus,
within the Author field

Ctrl+L
a red box will appear
type in \thanks{whatever you want to be here}

add as many as you want, one after the other

Help needed in the use of LyX

2017-05-10 Thread Muhammad asif raza
Dear all,

I am newbie to LyX. I have recently started using LyX for writing documents
and I personally like LyX for various reasons like productivity,
appearance, feel, writing style etc.

Recently I was writing my paper for IEEE Transaction using IEEE Transaction
document class in LyX however, I could not find "Acknowledgement" section
in the LyX.
The acknowledgement is usually written at the end of the first column in
the first page of IEEE Transaction papers. It contains basic information
about authors like their affiliations.
For example, in the attached file I highlight the part which I meant to.

I need to ask how can I add such information. I try on various forums in
the internet but no where my issue is resolved.

Thanks,
raza
