Yes, it got converted to a separator inset, for various reasons. But it did
not get put onto any menu.

  Seems to me that there was a separator environment in earlier LyX
versions. When I started the most recent document I went looking for the
separator and could not find it.

I would like to propose that we add the Separator under Insert>
Formatting. Sometimes it is just easier to do it that way.

It does not work if the cursor is at the separator. But it works if you 
place the cursor at the end of the last list item and press Alt+P Shift 
Enter.


Another way to introduce a separator is usually to press Enter enough 
times, but the Frame's KeepEmpty property interferes with it.

I tried several times. Inserting a frame between frame 2 and 3 works as you
described. But inserting a frame between frame 1 and frame 2 is not easy.
Pressing "Alt+P Enter" or "Alt+P Shift Enter", I got "Command disabled".

Although I can find a workaround, but I am frustrated due to complex
operations. Please have a try.

Alt-P Enter (or Alt-P Shift-Enter if you are nested) should work in this

I do not know the correct way, but I just add a last new frame, then move
it where I want through copy/paste or using the outline mode where you can
move up and down your frames.
