Ouch! Do you use a 32bit version of Win 8.1 or a 64bit version? Does it
help to reinstall LyX 2.2.1 using this new installer?:

Hi,

FYI, I just had today the same startup error message when trying to run
LyX 2.2.1 on Windows 7 Professional. LyX 2.1.x versions were running fine.

I installed 2.2.1 with "LyX-221-Installer-2.exe".

Following the discussion in this bug report_
http://www.lyx.org/trac/ticket/10206
I went to:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=48145
downloaded and installed "vc_redist.x86.exe" and now LyX runs fine.

Best regards,

Olivier.

Emile,

please keep the newsgroup in the loop.

That statement does not make sense, are you telling us that each of
the 22 small documents takes long to load into LyX?

I.e. you load the master document and then right click onto the link
of a sub document and then click on Edit?

Or do you mean making a PDF?

I would very strongly agree with Jean-Marc to send *HIM*, ie the LyX
authors the whole document(s) so they can see what the cause is.

I also would strongly suggest you upgrade your Windoze to 10 if you
can't switch to a proper computer like a Mac or a Linux box.

I would guess the reason it takes so long is because of the lyx2lyx
conversion. As a rule, we iterate through the entire document for every
single format change, often searching for regex matches as we do so.

It is also possible that the second time the load is faster.
(For instance because the needed latex packages are now uptodate)

I have a very big document (~100 Mo Pdf mainly of text with ~ 15000
pages) which was originally written with LyX 2.1 .
It takes more than *one hour* to open it with LyX2.2.0/2.2.1 and only a
few minutes with LyX 2.1.5.
Once open it is possible to work as usual on the document but the amount
of time necessary to open it preclude any operational use of LyX
2.2.0/2.2.1

Can you share this document (at least privately)? It happens sometimes
that we add quadratic behavior that is only made visible when a document
is _really_ large.
