I don't intend to move data from one server to another. I shouldn't have to, if there is an Oracle DB that have spatial table right? I can just let any MapGuide Server access the Oracle DB, read the spatial table and serve/publish that spatial table as an layers/maps/etcs. So really there

Is it a requirement to create a .mgp pakage from feature source oracle? My plan workflow is to connect to Oracle--> choose a spatial table and create a vector layer definition from the Oracle database --> once I have the layer then I should able to use that layer to create a web map application

Say you have a DEV MapGuide Server and a PROD MapGuide Server, you can author up all your layers/maps/etc on the DEV instance, create a mgp package that you can the load into the PROD instance and have all your data/layers/maps/etc in there without having to repeat all this work. So an .mgp
