 Hi Marketing,

I'm not sure who to approach...

When I do a search for openoffice, the 3rd search result is actually
 www.openoffice.us.com.

Being the 3rd search result means that many people would have downloaded
 from it.

Is this a valid site to download?
Or is this a scam to promote a malware-tainted copy of openoffice?

 Concerned,
 David Ong

The only site from which to download is
www.openoffice.org/download
which will redirect you to SourceForge where the files are stored.
Your download will start automatically in about five seconds - no need to click
on anything else.

You can verify the integrity of the downloaded file as described in
http://www.openoffice.org/download/checksums.html

Thanks to those who replied. I have been downloading from www.openoffice.org
for years. My concern is that there will be people who do not know.
If www.openoffice.us.com is promoting a suspicious copy to download to
unsuspecting public, that cannot be good for openoffice reputation in the
long run.
Is there something that can be done?

Worried,
David Ong

Hi Andrea,

Yes, its still the first result!! Thank goodness!!!
One suggestion is to make the headling for the search result to include
Official page, instead of small print.

An example would be VideoLAN. When I did a search for vlc, the words
Official page for VLC... is clear. So people would be highly unlikely to
go for the next few download sites.

Thinking...

The only official site is http://www.openoffice.org (which, I hope, comes
 as the first result!).

Or is this a scam to promote a malware-tainted copy of openoffice?

We don't know. That site is not affiliated with the OpenOffice project and
we cannot know what it offers. Always use the official site. See

Good catch. We did it, for example, for the Italian site

I hope someone can soon fix it, unless there are SEO (or other) concerns.
