Hello Adam and the list,
hydrochloric acid has been widely used to remove calcite from the mineral
specimens. The smell of rotten eggs means usually hydrogen sulphide, so I
suppose, you have had a quite heavy liquid to clean the mets. Well, natural
product anyway, no doubt...;-

I know this
is a delicate matter, and I wasnt sure if this question should be
brought up in public. However, Id like to hear your experience in that
respect privately, of course, not on the list.
From
different sources I have heard that a few sources on ebay sell
Hi Adam and List
Scary stuff indeed, that "magic cleaning potion"! And to
think that you had it in your luggage during your return flight...
I'm pleased to know that everything ended OK.
On a lighter note:
That hippie who sold the "potion" to you, is the cousin of
Harry Potter??

Hi all other mad scientists,
I once tossed a Canyon Diablo indvidual into a beaker of concentrated sulphuric acid.
The piece bucked, bubbled and twisted in its death throws, but nothing like what you
guys experienced. Sounds like your magic juice was really green...I mean green like
alien! Cue
Hello Greg, Adam and all,
Looks to me like someone found an easy way to dispose of their hazardous
waste. All Greg had to do to get rid of his Nitric acid was to lable it as a
magic cleaning solution and sell it to unsuspecting meteorite collectors
;-)
The next thing we'll have to watch out for

Dear All,
I make a brave prediction that in my lifetime left, that I will see
private corporations landing and harvesting minerals, gems, SOMETHING
from other places besides Earth (how about like a ton of Moon rock,
what would that bring today?), and I also predict that anyone that can
get a

railroad tracks.

Hi George,
Sorry for the delay in writting back to you.
Many thanks for your interesting, prompt
explanation!
I am aware about the +- minimum amd maximum relative orbital
speeds that meteors can attain on atmosphere entering, depending on how they
encounter Earth.
What surprised me was that
Okay... from what I know of the Tucson Show next year, this is the tentative

Show runs from Jan 31 to Feb. 15. This is from the Tucson Show website, so
if my dates are wrong, please correct me!
Meteorite-related activities are:
Tentative party on Thursday (Feb. 5)

Let me get this straight. A person who sells beef jerky has laid ownership
claim to a highly publicized asteroid and has invoiced NASA for parking and
storage, and has also filed suit for damages. He might be better served if
he dumped a large order of coffee in his lap and sued McDonalds.Better
How in the world (or off it) would someone 'claim' an asteroid? I think if
you wanted to use something like the Homesteading Act to assert ownership,
you have to build a structure on the property in question (or 'improve' the
property somehow) and live there for at least one year. That

Hi Michael,
Am watching it here from Duluth, MN. where we have clear skies and 7
degrees. During totality 2/3 of the disk was a nice deep pumpkin orange
through the scope (rusty red with the eye) and bordered by grayish-blue
just within the southern limb. To the eye the southern edge of the

Simple: The world is full of idiots.
This is just his 15 minutes of fame.
I believe he has about 9 minutes left.
Had a great view from up here in
Canada, but of course I froze my @$$ off. The moon looked kind of erie in the
sky during totality, really dim and kind of orangy. Looked great in the scope.
And for those of you who had bad weather, I got some pics:
