Bob is right, Steve. The glaciers brought down tons of magnetite from
the great iron deposits of northern Minnesota and Wisconsin and
Michigan's U.P. The stuff is all over; everything from pebbles to
boulders. And a lot of it weathers dark, looking a little bit like a
fusion crust.
Good luck,

Dear List Members,
Just quick not to let you know about a key specimen ending in tonight's
auction. I am also listing a new CV3 with odd properties.
TSAREV Meteorite from the Robert Haag Collection 978g, worth at least two to
three times the amount it is at now. This is the last piece I have

maybe someone can correct me if I'm wrong, but arent microscopic diamonds

Stan,
Not only do I agree with you on that issue, but aren't those diamonds in
the carbonaceous chondrites nanometer-sized, or a billionth of a meter
in size? I don't understand how something so miniscule could affect a
sawblade. I also thought I heard that it was carbides that caused the
Hi List,
This brings up a question:
What size are diamonds in a Ureilite. I am curious because this CV3 was
just as hard to cut and I could not imagine carbides wearing out diamonds on
a lap so quickly.
All the best,

Dear List,
Tell me if I am wrong thinking it is the diamonds in Ureilites that make
them so hard to cut. Why are Ureilites so hard to cut if the diamonds are
too small to interfere with the cutting and polishing processes?

Bob, I hate to correct you, but that piece is the surviving Portales Main
mass (I sold it to Jim) but the real main mass was the one Robert Woolard
found. So your are correct that it is the largest surviving piece.

Hi Bob,
I believe the main mass that was found by Robert Wollard originally weighed
34 kilos. His website is: http://www.portalesvalleymeteorites.com/
He has a link to a 7450 gram endcut that was featured in the 2003 Third
Millenium Calendar. I would think this is the main mass unless it was
