I'm writing this with tears in my eyes,my family and I came down here to

There is at least one in Glacial Lakes State Park this season. Haven't checked

Really enjoyed seeing Greater Prairie Chickens and Leconte's Sparrows in
addition to an assortment of expected wetland/prairie species near Odessa this
morning. Some area residents seem to think the chickens are doing well and
mentioned seeing them on occasion.

Maybe there are so few breeders that it is statistically irrelevant as migrants
are overwhelmingly the most likely individuals to be harvested. These kinds of

I had 3 lifers today at Kilen Woods!!! They were Gray-cheeked Thrush,
Philadelphia Vireo, and Nashville Warbler.

Folks,
Spent most of the day birding with Bonnie Sample and Don Vrchota in Jackson
County today and saw a great variety of bird life. We had the first Western
Meadowlark of the season and actually several of them. At Kilen Woods there
were singing Ruby-crowned Kinglets as well as Winter Wrens
better from here. Looking forward to it.

This morning I observed a Sharpie making a bee-line into a farm grove off Hwy

Visited a bird-feeding residence south of I-90 on Monday and waited patiently
til only 1 of a small flock of Redpolls made an appearance briefly. A lifer for
me! Its nice when those lifers can be seen from 3 feet away at a window feeder.

Today, I observed a flock of 20 or so Dunlins on the point. In adjacent farm
fields, there was a flock of Lapland Longspurs and sparrows were well
represented today with Savannah, Song, American Tree, and Fox mixed in with the
very abundant Junco flocks.

I was also treated to great looks at a hunting Sharp-shinned Hawk and once saw
it make a pass at a Blue Jay that hastily retreated to the interior of the
hedgerow. Hopefully future visits to accipiter alley will be just as
fruitful.
