Greetings:
Dave Bartkey and I checked Cannon Lake first. We had a nice closeup look at a
Horned Grebe.
Thee were many Ruddy Ducks, probaby over 175. Dave had hopes for scoter but it
didn't pan out to be that species. We moved to
Blackbirds were on the move this morning at Chaska Lake MVNWR.I estimated
around 500 of mainly Red-winged in 2 large flocks flying low heading southwest.
It looked like the flocks were coming in for the morning, as small numbers
landed. 8 Rusty Blackbird landed near me, and I'm pretty

Flushed a Short-eared Owl while pheasant hunting on a WMA between Lakefield and
Okabena.
Had a Bald Eagle scavenging road-kill just east of Kilen Woods State Park, not
a sight I necessarily expected to see, but not altogether surprising. I wonder
how common this behavior is during migration
On the corner of 37th and Queen Ave N, Minneapolis. A Pileated Woodpecker
was spotted at a backyard bird feeder. My husband and I thought this very
unusual, since the area isn't near any parks or wooded areas. There was only
one, so I wonder if it was just a fly over that happened on some food?
..was actually quite interesting. I had eight species of sparrow, most near the
fenced in cattail marsh near the west side (Sav., Song, White-throated, Junco,
Lincoln's, Clay-Colored, Swamp, Tree) and lots of
G-c Kinglets on both sides of the Marsh. Only warblers were Yel-rumped and
Palm.
Yesterday I spotted a Surf Scoter at Pickeral Lake, south west of Albert Lea
in Freeborn County. Three Golden-eye were in the same area.
