Amazon River Cruise: Birding in Northeastern Peru
with Ben Wilson, birder and photographer
Dec. 10, 7 p.m.
If any of you see an immature redtail with leather hanging from one leg and a
large bell on each ankle it would be GREATLY appreciated if you could post it
asap (and/or email me personally at natasha_le...@hotmail.com). It was last
seen in the vicinity of 11th Ave and 66th St in Richfield.
My husband called about a half hour ago to report that he saw two flocks of
Sandhill Cranes, 20 and then 30 to 40, flying north to south over the house
(central Ramsey). He was down the road a quarter mile or so on his walk, so
unfortunately I had no time to run upstairs and look. He said they
Katie Brey and I did a quick loop up Cty Rd. 2 out of Two Harbors and down
Stony River Forest Rd this morning between 7:45 am and 12:00 pm.

I then met up later with Peder Svingen at Canal Park and on the break walls we
Jim Otto and I birded various areas in Aitkin County today. Highlights:
Northern Hawk Owl - west side of hwy 169 at county hwy 18.
Great Gray Owls - one at county 18 - 320th Pl (Pietz's Rd) intersection - 9:00
am.
Second Great Gray observed on county 18, 0.6 miles west of 320th Pl. - 9:30 am.
I would like to add a couple opf sightings to Doug Kieser's impressive
list. I had a NORTHERN HAWK OWL along county road 1. It was north of
the diversion ditch bridge just as the pavement ends. I assume this is
the same one that was reported a couple of weeks ago but hasn't been
seen again
I would add only a few items to the postings from Warren Nelson and Doug Kieser
from earlier today.
We were also birding the same areas as they have described, with many sightings
of rough-legged hawks, a few shrikes, and only one hawk owl. We did see several
late American tree sparrows on
A first-cycle Iceland Gull was seen on Lake Calhoun this afternoon.
