It did not leave L Calhoun (Minneapolis) with the other roosting gulls this
morning. It is swimming alone near the NW corner of the lake (9:30 AM).

The little gull at Lake Calhoun seems to be near death. It is at the North end
of the lake just to the West of the swimming beach. It is right at the waters
edge.

I'm having second thoughts about this gull. It was extremely small when
swimming with Ring-billed's last night (1/4 - 1/3rd the size; 2/3rds the
length), and it was hard to see to what extent it had a dark cap. Today,
lying on the north beach at Calhoun, it is evident that there is only the

First-cycle bird associating with the Ring-billeds on L Calhoun at 6:20 PM.
Also present were a Lesser Black-backed and at least one adult Thayer's.
Generally the roosting gull flock at Calhoun is best observed late in the day
from the west shore.

Went out during my lunch hour on Monday and refound the Little Gull on
Lake Bemidji. First seen from Cameron Park at 25th Ave. north several
hundreds of yards off shore, it flew with a large flock of Bonaparte's
Gulls (50 plus) further out on to the lake. Bird acting very disturbed
as if chased.
This afternoon, Sunday, September 14, 2008, I relocated the Sabine's
Gull out over the central part of Lake Bemidji from the Cameron Park
boat landing north of the Bemidji State campus. I was able to get
better looks than yesterday and another birder, Mary Lou Marchand, was
also able to see the
I just got an email from Gary Tischer at Agassiz NWR that he and Kelly
Kerfeld observed a first winter Little Gull along CR 7 between South Pool
and Headquarters Pool about 12 PM today, June 10. They saw it for about 5
minutes altogether. I have not had a chance to look for it but Gary did not
Shelley Steva and I went to Agassiz tonight and the only gull we found at
that location was a second season Bonaparte's Gull as near as we could tell.
There was no sign of a Little Gull.

Today, 12 July, at about 2:45 PM, Bob Russell and I saw a Little Gull at the
Paynesville sewage ponds in Stearns Co. The gull was in second- or
adult-summer plumage.
Regrettably, we didn't see the Little Gull until it, and about 12 accompanying
Franklin's Gulls, flew across one of the

The Little Gull at the Ironton treatment ponds in Crow Wing County is still
being seen. We saw it a little after noon today (Friday, 10/27). This is
its tenth day at the ponds.
The treatment ponds are 1.5 miles north of the town of Ironton on CR 30, BUT
to see the bird you really need to get
The Little Gull was seen again Sunday (4 Sep) on Lake Superior from
Lafayette Square (31st Street at Minnesota Ave) on Park Point in
Duluth. It was found at about 5:20 PM--the third consecutive afternoon
that it has been seen at this location between 5:00 and 5:30 PM. Twenty
minutes later, a
Last evening there was a significant movement of Green Darners and other
dragonflies along the beach at Park Point. During a two-hour lake watch, I saw
a Little Gull among 1000s of Ring-billed Gulls and several dozen Bonaparte's
Gulls. No sign of any jaeger species and there was a puzzling,
This afternoon I found an adult Little Gull at Park Point in Duluth. It
was on the lake side of the Point out from Lafayette Square / 31st St,
associating with a large flock of Bonaparte's Gulls. Counting by tens,
I estimated there were about 1,400 Bonaparte's in this single group,

In the group shots with Bonaparte's, it's the bird in the lower right
foreground, except for the bottom flight shot with the Bonaparte's. In
that one, the background bird is (obviously) the Little.
