Today there were 2 Snow Buntings on the sandy strip near the campground. There
was also a late Least Sandpiper present at the same location. American Tree
Sparrows have showed up in good numbers as well.

Four Snow Buntings were on the waters edge at Pond C this morning.
Flying over head were Eastern Bluebirds and what I thought to be Pine
Siskins twice. A Winter Wren was in the wooded lane going to Hogback
Pond. The Northern Shrike has been hanging around for the past week.

I'm wondering if anyone has seen any snow buntings in Minneapolis or the
western burbs recently. It's my bird of obsession for the winter and I have

Hi All--
Gene Bauer and I came upon a flock of about a dozen Snow Buntings near
Northfield, Rice Co. At least two smaller, darker birds flew in the flock,
birds we assumed must be Lapland Longspurs. Despite the flock being wary, I
tried to photograph the longspurs since, curiously, I lack that

Saw several Snow Buntings along the road Thursday at Crane Lake in northern

2 Surf Scoters were seen on the lake and a Black-backed Woodpecker in the

had been small flocks of 20-40 feeding in the fields periodically
until the real cold hit 2 weeks ago. Then they came in larger numbers

Howdy All,
I observed a 30 - 50 bird flock of Snow Buntings in Rochester today near the
Northern Hills Tallgrass Prairie. It was fun to see a beautiful sign of
winter. One of my students said how they liked them because they were not
wussy birds, like the ones that go south for the winter.
