Members of Minneapolis Issues,
Some of you may remember me from some time back. I must admit that I did temporarily
unsubscribe myself as I could not keep up with the sheer volume of entries. However,
I have resubscribed and also received a submission from a friend that was on Mpls.

Admittedly playing a little catch-up here...
I don't know if Phyllis Kahn's head should roll (she's not my rep and, as such, I
don't know enough about her. Not to mention I won't advocate such draconian measures.
:-) ) However, I must agree with the rest of the sentiment here. It never

speaking of archie bunker, i was in grumpy's bar over
northeast yesterday and the guy at the table next to
me was making some comments about immigrants that
reminded me of archie.
"somalians are lazy", "mexicans are dirty", "why are
we letting them in?", etc, etc.

my question is: are people seeing and hearing
examples of this also. i haven't up to this point, and
thought we were living in an enlightened age, but
maybe the backlash is coming.

Those responses have their equivalents in the immigrant communities, Mark.

There is more to do than just build the building--though the building is way
important. It takes something like $100,000 a year more to run Hosmer than the
library has a budget to afford. As a new Sumner and Franklin library come into
being, it will take that much more for them too. The
Dave Dix has made a good point about Minneapolis' transition into
entertainment. A good book on this is "Fantsay City: Pleasure and Profit
in the Postmodern Metropolis" by John Hannigan. Available at some of the
college libraries, Mpls ("for use in the library") and Hennepin.

our list manager stated in a posting that the strib
editorial board was fair game on mpls. issues. so...
we were treated to a double dose of political speak on

I agree all the budget deliberations should be televised and have just
confirmed with City Council President Jackie Cherryhomes that they will be.
Thank you, Minneapolis City Councilmember Jim Niland

It is my understanding that the county oversees the foster care program,
but it does have huge implications for many children in Minneapolis. There
are also foster care placements that are through agencies such as Lutheran
Social Services and Catholic Charities.

Why does building a new, presumeably more efficient, building, with
persumably state of the art technology, result in a higher operating costs.
This sounds like the conversation I had this summer with the library
director. She had no idea that technology could be used to reduce staff
Same song, same dance over here in Seward. Remember though, we did have

their leaves. A few years back, if I remember correctly, street

Carsten called me today. Said he was working on a
version of the DFL letter too. I agree my opening
statement was weak. I guess that must epitomize my
confidence when it comes to the DFL.
Anyway, he will forward his version to me tomorrow.
Will forward that to you and Fred when I get it.
The previous post obviously wasn't meant for the list.
It shouldn't have happened. I definately will be
more careful in the future.

Hennepin County Children and Family Services workers do foster care placement.
The Time Magazine piece does spotlight some terrible stories from several
states, but if this strand does catch some interest, I hope folks realize
that foster parents are some of the real heroes in this society.
